This isn’t only for fans of Delicious in Dungeon; it’s for all anime lovers who enjoy anime-themed cafes, as well as for any tourists traveling through Japan. Even those who are currently living there should visit the cafe for the experience! You can enjoy the immersive dungeon-themed plating, and all the food made to look like they were cooked from actual monster parts!
‘Delicious in Dungeon’
The recent anime that quickly grew in popularity upon release, Delicious in Dungeon, is a fantasy-themed, RPG adventure-style anime with your usual monsters and a main cast of adventurers that battle through a dungeon to survive. Unlike other RPG-style adventuring anime, what sets Delicious in Dungeon apart from them is the theme of food which added to their uniqueness and popularity.
Even the plot is especially different. When the main character’s sister is eaten by a dragon, he and the rest of his crew go to rescue her before she’s fully digested, but due to prior damage to his team, they are low on supplies and funds for food. Thus, they get the idea of using things found around the dungeon to eat for sustenance, including the dungeon monsters. This eventually turns into more than simply eating for survival after they meet a dwarf who offers advice on how to cook dungeon monsters.
Delicious in Dungeon’s Popularity
The status of the Delicious in Dungeon anime is that it was written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui and animated by studio Trigger. It began its run in January 2024 and is ongoing, with a trailer for season 2 already out. Certainly, it was an amazing start to the year, and likely a well-timed one too. It’s great for anime lovers who were looking for something new to watch for the year or for any fans of the Delicious in Dungeon manga who were greatly looking forward to an anime adaptation of their favorite series for the year.
As a manga, it was already highly popular in 2016; over 2 million copies were sold in August 2017; the anime just increased it to the point that fanart of Delicious in Dungeon characters is now more frequent than ever on social media.
The reasons are a combination of it being an RPG-styled adventure anime, a comedy genre filled with the occasional eldritch horror, themes of cooking literal fantasy meals that make fans hungry, and also its amazing cast of characters. It’s not just that the characters have greatly written personalities, but also that the characters are diverse. Diversity is sadly a rare occurrence in anime.
The Delicious in Dungeon Cafe
Thanks to all the fans of Delicious in Dungeon, and the growing of the show’s popularity, there is now a cafe themed after it! The Monster Delicacy Cafe has made appearances in both Ikebukuro and Shibuya Japan. A YouTuber named Emirichu even made a video about one of them, which you can find very informative.
For Ikebukuro, the Delicious in Dungeon anime and cafe collaboration is being held at Atari Cafe and Dining, on the 8th floor of Ikebukuro Parco Main Building. There is even a website to view the menu, novelties, or decor, as well as merchandise when the cafe opens and closes. It has adorable art of mini versions of the characters too. But it is in Japanese, so for any English speakers who haven’t perfected reading kanji or Japanese characters, you’ll need your computer to translate it first for easy reading.
As for Shibuya, they had a Delicious in Dungeon pop-up store! Two stories with eating challenges and a very immersive atmosphere, thanks to the decor! Held in Shibuya from January 18th to 21st, so unfortunately, while it has ended, the fact that it made two appearances in two popular spots in Japan gives hope of there being more pop-up stores in the future.

It is very worth it to add this to one of your travel destinations in Japan. The cafe is immersive and very well-themed, and the food is on a whole other level in matching the food from the anime. That’s not surprising since food is a major theme in Delicious in Dungeon. When you have time, go make a reservation online and see for yourself!
