Soap opera fans may be familiar with Australian actor Daniel Goddard. He is mainly known for playing Eric Phillips on Aussie soap Home and Away in the mid-1990s. In the U.S. he portrayed Cane on The Young and the Restless, and later on Caleb, Cane’s twin brother. Goddard also played Dar in the Australian series Beastmaster from 1999 until 2002.
Daniel Goddard’s History of Modeling and Theatre
Daniel Goddard spent part of his early career modeling for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein. He then worked on a few theatrical productions before catching his break on Home and Away.
The Australian soap thrust him in the limelight to work on other projects, including guest starring in shows like Monk and Wild Card (2003). In 2007 he landed the role of Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless and stayed on the soap for about 12 years.
Goddard’s Ventures Outside of Acting
In 2020 Daniel Goddard and Bryton James (Devon on The Young and the Restless) created a social app called Bildbord. The augmented reality app helps people connect in real life and is tailor-made for soap fans.
Later, the app changed its name to ‘Dysko.’ Both James and Goddard still run it. The creative platform also works like a social media site in that you can post comments, likes, and reach out to others. The AR app is designed to take away the anxiety some people experience when meeting other people and going to new places.
Daniel Goddard Joining General Hospital Cast
In late 2024, Goddard was called by his representative to read a part for the soap, General Hospital. Initially, he read for the part of Jack Brennan, but ultimately Chris McKenna snagged that role.
A short time later, Goddard’s agent called him back and told him the producers at General Hospital had created the role of professor Henry Dalton, specifically for him. Professor Dalton is Joss and Emma’s environmental physics instructor at PCU. Although we don’t know much about the professor, it seems as though he has a checkered past.
The WSB (World Security Bureau) has their eyes on Professor Dalton and they’ll be using Joss (Eden McCoy) to aid them. Is Dalton a mild mannered college instructor or is he hiding something? We’ll see what General Hospital has planned for the professor’s story line.
A Few Final Thoughts
It’s great to see talented (and good looking) soap alum returning to the small screen. With the addition of Daniel Goddard’s character, General Hospital can now delve deeper into other exciting storytelling aspects of the long-running daytime drama.
