For thirty-three seasons, Dancing With The Stars has brought celebrities into the ballroom scene with the ultimate challenge of putting on a showstopping dance each week with the help of their professional dance partner. Past seasons have had their share of controversial contestants, like Tiger Kings Carole Baskin, Olympian Ryan Loche, and Youtuber Olivia Jade. However, this season revealed a contest no one saw coming: con artist Anna Delvey.
Who Is Anna Delvey?
In May 2018, journalist Jessica Pressler published an article in New York Magazine following Delvey’s arrest. In it, she delved into the private world of the New York socialite scene, where Delvey seemingly fooled everyone into believing she was a wealthy heiress from Germany living in high-end hotels in the city and working to create her own art-based club in SoHo.
In October 2017, she was arrested and sent to Rikers Island for defrauding businesses of more than $250,000. In 2019, she was sentenced to four to twelve years in prison. Delvey was later released in 2021, and then she spent a year in an ICE detention center. Shonda Rhimes production company Shondaland also adapted Pressler’s article for the Netflix original series Inventing Anna, where Ozark star Julia Garner portrayed Delvey to mixed reviews.
Now on house arrest, Delvey isn’t stopping from doing art shows and posting aesthetically pleasing photos on Instagram. She proudly sports her ankle monitor as a fashion accessory, with every outfit showing the world she is not ashamed of it.
Dancing With The Stars Season 33
On Wednesday morning, ABC’s Good Morning America announced that Delvey will be partnered with a new dancer, Ezra Soso, in this year’s cast. Competing alongside her are actress Tori Spelling, The Bachelorette’s Jenn Tran, and Olympian IIona Maher.
Despite her recent legal battles, the fake heiress claimed she had received permission from ICE to compete during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside Soso. He also expressed excitement about being paired with Delvey for his first season of Dancing With the Stars. “I’m freaking obsessed with Anna, so I’m very excited she’s my first partner,” said Soso during the interview.
