Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotional. Hebrews 11 gives exemplary examples of warriors of the faith. Faith is your calling card as a believer. No matter what the test or trial, you must trust God to overcome it, just like faithful men and women of old. In today’s daily devotional, if you start to get weary in your race, read over this chapter and see how they overcame their challenges by faith.
Put Your Faith in God
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when life’s challenges and disappointments keep knocking at your door. But a quick look at Hebrews 11 confirms that your trials are light afflictions compared to those Old Testament saints went through. Verse 33 says, “Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.” David was a fighter who conquered powerful kingdoms on the battlefield.
He fought in so many wars that when he wanted to build God’s temple, the Lord told him through the prophet Nathan that he’d shed too much blood. When he passed the kingdom to Solomon, David had subdued all Israel’s enemies, and Solomon inherited a kingdom of peace. In your daily devotional, there’s no battle God cannot bring you safely through when you put your faith in Him.
God’s Promise is Sure to Come
Abraham’s faith was accounted for righteousness after obtaining God’s promise. In Genesis 15:3, Abram speaks to the Lord, saying, “Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.” Abraham thought he would have to leave his household and possessions to his servant. He went to God earnestly, expressing his disappointment in not having a son to follow him. Abraham and Sarah had been married many years at this point, and had not produced a seed to carry on his name.
Yet in verse 4, God gave Abraham a promise: “This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.” It took twenty-five years for the promise to be fulfilled, but Abraham received it by faith. In this daily devotional, when God gives you a promise, wait on it, for it is sure to come to pass.
God Always Has a Plan
Daniel was taken into captivity at a young age. He was forced to endure the long march across the desert to Babylon, which would become his residence, where he’d be given a new name and introduced to a pagan civilization. However, Daniel remained steadfast. God had given him an excellent spirit, and he found favor with the king because of his wisdom, intelligence, and ability to interpret dreams.
Daniel rose to the office of president. Afterwards, the king wanted to elevate Daniel above all the other presidents and set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the other presidents conspired against him. They brought charges against Daniel, and he was thrown into the lion’s den. In your daily devotional, when it looks like it’s all over, God always has a plan.
Your God Will be With You
In Monday’s daily devotional, the next morning, when the king and his officers went to check on Daniel, he was still alive. The lions had not ripped him apart, as his conspirators hoped, but when they were thrown in, the lions overpowered them. In today’s daily devotional, know that your God will give you strength for the battle and faith to endure. He will fulfill his promises and keep you safe.
