Daily Devotional for Tuesday Thoughts | April 21, 2026

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotional. Jesus’ seventh and final “I AM” statement in the Gospel of John reveals His sustaining power and your dependence on Him to operate in the Kingdom. In John 5:19, Jesus says, “The Son can do nothing of himself.” Likewise, in today’s daily devotional, you can do nothing without Christ.

I Am The Vine

Jesus’ time with His disciples was winding down, as He continued instructing them and showing them that their relationship would continue. In John 15:1, He proclaims, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.” Jesus affirms He is the Source of their spiritual life. In your daily devotional, just as branches cannot survive without a vine nourishing them to grow and become fruitful, you can’t grow spiritually and produce fruit without Christ.

Remaining in the Vine

In verse 2, Jesus teaches them the importance of remaining in the vine. God is likened to a vinedresser in Scripture, and Jesus tells them plainly that the Father purges branches that don’t bear fruit. Purging, or pruning, is a necessary step in maintaining healthy growth. It requires cutting, chopping, and trimming. Often, life’s challenges cause believers to realize their inadequacies without Christ and dismiss unproductivity in their lives.

When Nathan confronted David about his sins, David repented, asking God to purge and restore him and to give him a new heart. In this daily devotional, check your spiritual vitality. Are you communing with the Lord and walking in faith? Are you keeping in step with the Spirit?

Clean Through the Word

In verse 3, Jesus declares them clean through His word. Jesus shows them the pathway to life and spiritual health. Now they must put His words into practice and stay connected to Him. Proverbs 3:5 tells believers not to trust in their own understanding. Trusting in yourself disconnects you from the Source. Thus you begin operating with your own wisdom, which isn’t sufficient to thrive in God’s Kingdom.

Operating in God’s wisdom means abiding in Him and in His word. In today’s daily devotional, for a spiritual check-up, ask yourself, “Am I abiding in the Vine, my Source of Life?”

Abide to Bear Fruit

In verse 4, Jesus again admonishes His disciples to abide in Him because they cannot bear fruit without doing so. In Genesis 4, Cain refused to offer an acceptable sacrifice, although he and Abel were given the same instructions. Hebrews 11:4 declares that Abel offered his sacrifice by faith, and faith begins where the will of God is known.

Therefore, Cain knew but did it his own way. He didn’t abide in God’s word. Like Cain, you won’t bear fruit acceptable to God, but produce dead works that are rejected. In today’s daily devotional, there’s only one way to bear fruit: abiding in obedience to God.

Bear Much Fruit

In verse 5, Jesus repeats, “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” He stresses remaining in Him to bear “much fruit.” Jesus doesn’t want you to be somewhat fruitful or partially fruitful. He desires you to be abundantly fruitful, as there is much work to be done to advance God’s Kingdom on earth. In this daily devotional, declare that in Him you will bear much fruit.

Jesus is Your True Vine

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, Jesus reveals this truth: “For without me ye can do nothing.” Jesus declared He can do nothing without the Father, and you can do nothing without Him.  In today’s daily devotional, your spiritual vitality depends on you remaining in Him, for He has declared, “I am the vine.”
