Daily Devotion for Tuesday Thoughts | April 7, 2026

A person writes "Pray" in a notebook on a quilted surface for a daily devotional, next to an open book, a cup of coffee on a saucer, and a smartphone. The scene is calm and reflective.

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotion. Sometimes things don’t exactly happen the way you thought they would. When you walk with the Lord, it may seem as though things are going in the opposite direction of what you’d imagined. In today’s daily devotion, faith means trusting God even when things don’t always turn out the way you desired.

Who Loves More?

After His resurrection, Jesus didn’t appear to His disciples first; He appeared to Mary Magdalene. Mark 16:9 makes a point that Mary Magdalene was the one whom Jesus had cast out seven devils. Jesus told a parable about a creditor who forgave the debts of two men who couldn’t repay him. One owed a great amount, while the other owed much less. Jesus asked Simon which man would love the creditor more.

In this, Jesus teaches how forgiveness impacts love. Mary Magdalene is deeply devoted to Jesus, and they share a bond rooted in love and gratitude. In your daily devotion, your love for Jesus determines the depth of your relationship with Him.

Learn to Believe

In verse 10, Mary Magdalene goes to Jesus’ disciples “as they mourned and wept,” even though Jesus plainly told them He would rise after death. Verse 11 says, “And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.” They are devastated, thinking Jesus, their Hope, is gone. In this daily devotion, your love for Jesus grows deeper as you understand the depth of His love for you and what He has done for you.

Walking with Jesus

In verse 11, two of Jesus’s followers head to the country, perhaps returning home. Luke 24:13 picks up the story as they head to Emmaus, 7.5 miles from Jerusalem. As they talk about Friday’s events, Jesus approaches and begins walking with them, but they don’t recognize Him. When He asks why they’re sad, they begin to recount Jesus’ condemnation, crucifixion, and death.

In verse 21, one named Cleopas says they thought that Jesus would redeem Israel. He goes on to say that certain disciples went to the tomb after being told He was alive, but didn’t find Him. In today’s daily devotion, when you remember Jesus’ words, you can recharge your faith when it begins to waver.

With Joyful Hearts

After hearing their sorrowful report, Jesus responds, “O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.” Then He begins to teach them what Scripture from Moses to the prophets says about Him. As they near the village, it seems Jesus is going further, so they compel Him to stay with them. During their meal, Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them. Then they recognize Him, and he vanishes.

With joyful hearts, the two return to Jerusalem. Mark 16:13 says, “And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.” While they’re speaking, Jesus appears to them. Instead of commending them for their faith, He upbraided them for their unbelief “and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.” In your daily devotion, walk by faith, not by sight or your own reasoning.

Never Doubt the Lord

In Tuesday’s daily devotion, the disciples now see that they have not trusted the Lord. Instead of believing Jesus or eye-witness reports from Mary Magdalene and the two from Emmaus, they doubted. What happened didn’t align with what they’d thought. In your daily devotion, never doubt the Lord’s words. Trust they will come to pass.
