Daily Devotion Thursday Thoughts | April 2, 2026
It’s Thursday, and time for your daily devotion. As we observe Holy Week, the events that unfold leave us astounded by Jesus and what He teaches us about life, love, obedience, and sacrifice. In today’s daily devotion, Jesus paid it all, but we owe Him our gratitude.
Prepare the Passover
In Mark 14:12, it’s the first day of unleavened bread when the passover lamb, representing Jesus, is sacrificed in the temple. The disciples ask Jesus where they should go to prepare for the Passover meal. Jesus gives them detailed instructions to find the upper room set aside for Him.
As the disciples follow His guidelines, everything falls into place. They experienced it earlier in the week when His directions led them to a colt designated for His triumphal entry. In these events, Jesus teaches His disciples life lessons in obedience. In your daily devotion, learn as a disciple to follow your Master’s instructions.
The Ultimate Servant

In verse 17, the evening arrives, and Jesus and His disciples come to the upper room to partake of the Passover. The mood turns somber as Jesus announces, “One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.” They each ask, “Is it I?” Jesus identifies the betrayer as the one who dips in the same dish with Him. Jesus blesses, breaks, and serves the bread to them. Then He offers them the cup in verse 24, saying, “This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.”
They drink, and as the meal progresses, Jesus gets up, removes His outer garments, takes a towel, and girds Himself. John 13:5 continues: “After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.”
Jesus gives them a new commandment: “Love one another,” while demonstrating His great love. They’re imperfect, and one is a traitor, yet He washes their feet as the ultimate Servant, who has come not to be served but to serve. In this daily devotion, say out loud, “Jesus gave me an example to follow.”
Feeling the Weight
Then they sing a hymn and leave, heading to Gethsemane. Jesus warns them that they’ll all become offended and leave. When Peter promises he won’t, Jesus informs Peter that he’ll deny Him three times. Feeling the weight of His call, Jesus prays about the cup passing from Him, while His disciples are so sorrowful that they sleep. Strengthened by an angel from Heaven, Jesus returns to them for the third time, telling them that the hour is here.
In verse 41, He states that “the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” In your daily devotion, Jesus teaches you how to face difficult moments while remaining obedient to the Father. Through it all, Jesus remains firm and resolute.
The Sacrificial Lamb
Judas appears with temple soldiers and betrays Jesus with a kiss that identifies Him. Soldiers grab Jesus, and although Peter strikes one with his sword, the disciples all forsook Him and fled. The events pick up as Jesus is led to the high priest, where the council is assembled to bring false accusations against Him. They charge Him with blasphemy and condemn Him guilty of death. In this daily devotion, Jesus’ sacrifice leads to your salvation.
What Jesus Teaches You
In Thursday’s daily devotion, they abuse Him, setting the stage for His crucifixion on Friday. In today’s daily devotion, Jesus has become the sacrificial Lamb for the sins of the world. With immense pressure, He teaches us life, love, obedience, and the ultimate sacrifice.
