Daily Devotion Wednesday Wisdom | April 1, 2026

In daily devotion, a Bible is open to Mark.

Happy Wednesday, it’s time for your daily devotion. What happened on Wednesday during Holy Week? The Pharisees and religious leaders had been piling up evidence against Jesus. Despite His miracles, they’d worked to prove He was a blasphemer, who didn’t honor the Sabbath Day or traditions of the elders. In today’s daily devotion, Jesus calls those blessed who take no offense in Him.

It’s Spy Wednesday

Holy Wednesday is also called Spy Wednesday because Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus to the religious leaders. Mark 14:1 says that “the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.” However, they want to avoid doing this on the feasts of the Passover or Unleavened Bread to avoid an uproar. Their desire to kill Jesus shows their true evil nature. In your daily devotion, Spy Wednesday is a day of conspiracy, but it’s also a day of devotion.

Jesus Invited to Dine

While they’re plotting, Jesus is in Bethany at Simon the leper’s house, where He has been invited to dine. While there, a woman enters the house with an alabaster box of rare ointment and anoints Jesus’ feet with it. She demonstrates her devotion to Jesus through tears, wiping His feet with her hair. She shows a humility so lacking in the Pharisees. Though they’ve seen Jesus do great things in their midst, they’re driven by hatred and jealousy. In your daily devotion, always be ready to show gratitude to Jesus.

One Pharisee thought that Jesus wouldn’t have allowed this woman to touch Him, had He known she was a sinner. Jesus perceives his thoughts and uses this moment to teach on love and forgiveness through a parable. He commends the woman for acting out of love and forgives her sins. He declares that those who’ve been forgiven much, love much.

And what she’s done will be a memorial wherever the gospel is preached. Some speak against her “wasting” expensive perfume, arguing it could have been sold to help the poor.  But Jesus affirms, “The poor you will always have with you,” and reveals that her act was for His burial. In your daily devotion, don’t worry about what others say about how you praise Jesus.

Judas Betrays Jesus

In verse 10, Judas leaves Simon’s house and goes to the chief priests to betray Jesus. After scheming for ways to entrap Him, Judas’s offer is music to their ears: “They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.” The price Judas was paid for his betrayal was thirty pieces of silver, in fulfillment of the prophecy in Zechariah 11:13.

Judas decided to conspire against Jesus, who had taught Him about love, faith, and kindness to others. He had listened to Jesus’ teachings for the three years he’d been with Him. Jesus anointed him and sent him out with the other disciples two by two to preach the gospel and heal the sick. However, Judas shows that Jesus’ lessons never took root in him. For profit, he has betrayed Jesus to His enemies. In your daily devotion, Judas failed to examine himself, although Jesus always offers us forgiveness.

You Must Examine Yourself

The Chosen — Judas betrays Jesus Christ (Season 5 scene)

In Wednesday’s daily devotion, Paul says in 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.” He goes on to say that Jesus is in you, unless you’re reprobate. In today’s daily devotion, you’re not a reprobate like Judas, but a believer devoted to Christ, who is blessed for taking no offense in Him.
