It’s Thursday and time for your daily devotional. Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1 teaches you how to pray for spiritual understanding and how to pray the same for others. All scripture is inspired by God, so it’s an anointed prayer. In today’s daily devotional, Paul’s prays that you’re enlightened with wisdom and revelation.

Spiritually Enlightened

Paul prays for believers’ spiritual enlightenment to understand what God has provided through Christ. He has given you all things that pertain to life and godliness. Everything you need for life, both naturally and spiritually, is found in Christ. God’s Word is your resource for what His will is for you as a child of God.

Yet the Bible is spiritually discerned, meaning it can’t be understood intellectually. That’s why Paul prays for your spirit to be enlightened. In your daily devotional, insert your name in the place of you, your, and our and make it a personal prayer.

Filled with His Wisdom

Verse 21 speaks about where Christ is positioned presently: “Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” Jesus sits on a lofty throne beside the Father of Creation. He’s above evil powers and wicked rulers of darkness. Jesus’ name is above every name in the cosmos. Colossians 1:17 declares, “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

His power holds all things together whether this world or worlds to come. In this daily devotional, you can accept Christ as your Savior, but not know him personally or relationally. However, He wants to fellowship with you daily. Seek Him in prayer. He wants to talk to you, lead and guide you in a life filled with His wisdom.

Under His Feet

Verse 22 is powerful, as it summarizes God’s exaltation of Christ: “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.”  God has put all things under His feet. After an intense study of the word “all,” it means ALL. That means there’s nothing higher than the name of Jesus. Everything is under His feet.

Words that might be considered powerful on earth must bow to Christ’s power. Your finances must bow, cancer must bow, and every ailment known to man. And He is the head of the church. In your daily devotional, the body can’t function without the head, for it’s the brain and command post.

Body of Christ

Paul’s closes his prayer with these words: “Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” The church is called the body of Christ. It’s been called His hands and feet and includes believers worldwide. God sees us as one, unified and not divided.  1 Corinthians 12:13 proclaims: “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” In this daily devotional, our oneness is essential in the body of Christ.

Paul’s Prayer for You and the Body

In Thursday’s daily devotional, have you ever looked out at a congregation of believers of different ethnicities or groups? You see a beautiful mix of God’s creation who physically are slightly different yet united spiritually. Despite cultural differences, there’s an inward connection, and it’s Jesus Christ. In today’s daily devotional, pray Paul’s prayer for yourself and for the body to be enlightened with God’s wisdom and revelation in Christ.
