Alex Cross TV Series: Premiering on Prime Soon

James Patterson’s detective Alex Cross has been delighting readers with a penchant for pulse-pounding thrillers for years. This fall, the beloved character is ready to make the jump to the small screen. Cross, a new Prime Video series, will feature characters inspired by Patterson’s books in what promises to be a bona fide TV event. If you’re into twisty, dark series, you’ll want to buckle up. With an appealing cast and intriguing premise, this highly-anticipated show is sure to keep viewers coming back for more.

Cross Was a Long Time in the Making

Alex Cross is a detective and forensic psychologist. He is uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, all in order to zoom in on the killers and put them behind bars. Not only that, but he’s a single father, and his job often pits him against dangerous fellows. That can’t be easy when you’re single, let alone when you’re a dedicated family man. Still reeling after his wife’s death, Cross does his best to keep things together. Unfortunately, past trauma and present danger may soon collide to turn his world upside down.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the character of Alex Cross isn’t new to the screen. Movie fans might remember Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, earlier film adaptations starring Morgan Freeman. Tyler Perry also portrayed the character in the 2012 movie Alex Cross. Now, however, Prime Video promises to deliver a deeper, more serialized look at Cross’s life. In other words, the show is likely to add layers to his character that can only be explored over a multi-episode series. At his core, Cross isn’t solely a skilled detective; he’s also a vulnerable man grappling with the high cost associated with his line of work.

The Show Doesn’t Skimp on Talent

Prime Video’s Cross series stars Aldis Hodge in the titular role. Seasoned TV fans probably remember him from Leverage, an underrated but compelling series about a bunch of crooks who use their skills to fight injustice and help people who were wronged. Hodge also appeared in movies like Straight Outta Compton, Hidden Figures, One Night in Miami…, and The Invisible Man. More recently, you could catch him in the TV crime drama City on a Hill. Hodge’s talent is undeniable, and it’s about time he got his own series. Cross also stars Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, and Ryan Eggold.

In even better news, Cross has already been renewed for season 2, ahead of its season 1 premiere. You don’t have to worry about getting hooked on a fresh series only for it to be unceremoniously canceled. In fact, Jeanine Mason, Matthew Lillard, and Wes Chatham are all confirmed to join the series in its sophomore season. Given that there are more than 30 Alex Cross novels available, we’re guessing the showrunners are in no danger of running out of material anytime soon.

Final Thoughts

Prime Video’s Cross is likely to appeal to a wide audience. The new series should be a hit for fans of Patterson’s novels and those who enjoy psychologically rich crime series like Mindhunter or True Detective. Based on the information available so far, Cross won’t only focus on investigating complex crime cases. On top of that, it will delve into the psychology behind crime and the toll it takes on those who dedicate their lives to pursuing justice. Season 1 consists of eight episodes, all arriving at once on November 14. The fact that you don’t have to wait in between episodes only sweetens the deal.
