On Sunday we are wrapping up our last day in Libra, a Flower day associated with Air. This is the time for tending flowers, broccoli, roses, all edible flowers, cauliflower, and artichokes, all of the lovely plants that bloom above the ground. It’s also a good time to harvest hay. During this time you want to thin plants like cauliflower and broccoli.
The Farmers Almanac notes that it is a good time to sow grains and forage crops, to Plant flowers. It’s also a good time to plant peas, beans, tomatoes, and other crops bearing aboveground though Fruit days would be better for this if you can wait. If you make teas or crafts with flowers, this is a great time to harvest flowers and leaves for tea, cut flowers, or for drying or pressing. Make sure these are all stored in a dark dry place.
- On Saturday, the moon moved into descension. This is going to be the best time to plant or transplant root crops. This is also going to be the best time to apply any sprays as the soil will take the nutrients in as the earth inhales.
- On Friday, the moon moved into apogee and is the farthest from the planet in its rotation, again making it a good time to sow seeds, bulbs, and starts. It could be a good time to catch up if you have plants that need to be put in before it’s too late.
Monday, June 17th – Tuesday, June 18th | Scorpio
On Monday, we are moving into our Leaf Days the perfect days to work with plants that grow above the ground, leafy plants that take nutrients and water through their leaves including lettuces, cabbages, aromatic herbs, and shrubs. Thin and transplant lettuce, Brussels, Cabbage, and kale. Also, cut aromatic herbs before they bloom and go to seed. The Farmers Almanac also points out that its an ideal time to plant seedbeds. All aboveground crops planted now will do well.
- As the moon is currently in descension, this is going to be the best time to plant or transplant root crops. This is also going to be the best time to apply any sprays as the soil will take the nutrients in as the earth inhales.

Wednesday – Friday, we will be moving through our Fruit Days portion of the current cycle. This is the time to tend to plants that bear fruit, beans, grains, tomatoes, and squash. Prune the suckers from tomatoes and squash to keep them healthy. If you are in an area where you might have harvested your fruit trees, this is the time to prune those as well once the fruit is gone. If needed, this is a good time to plant or transplant fruit day crops as well. The Almanac also notes that these are Poor planting days, but could be good for cutting hay or completing general farm work.

Saturday, June 22nd – Sunday, June 23rd | Capricorn
Saturday and Sunday are this cycle’s Root Days. You’re going to want to care for the plants that fruit underground: radishes, potatoes, edible bulbs, onions, etc. It’s also a good time to separate and transplant items that need spread out. This is also a good time for canning if you have things that are ready as well as continuing to rid your garden of pests, both bugs and weeds.

This week is an easy week of pretty much tending to what has already been started. If you are in an area where you are still planting, you have an opportunity for all days, fruit, leaf, root, and flower, this week. Make sure your plants are being watered sufficiently but don’t over water. Some plants definitely don’t like drowning. Clip those suckers or extra branches that aren’t bearing fruit. This will help the plant put all of its nutrients and energy into the parts you will eventually harvest rather than caring for unusable parts that you won’t eventually eat.
Please check the hardiness zone map to make sure that you’re following the guidelines for your growing zone. This gardening horoscope is written for the northern hemisphere in the Western United States and while the rules will be the same, the dates/times of year, of course, may change. This is this week’s gardening plan based on the constellations, descension/ascension, and details noted in Gardening By the Moon #1: An Easy Astrological Guide. I have also consulted the Farmers Almanac. and the book, Biodynamic Gardening referenced below.
Happy gardening and may the blessings of spring bring happiness to your heart, curiosity to your mind, and magic into your life.
