On Sunday we entered Leo after Cancer let us on Saturday. Leo is puts us in the Fruit Days. This is the time to tend to plants that bear fruit. Beans, grains, tomatoes, squash. Prune the suckers from tomatoes and squash to keep them healthy. If you are in an area where you might have harvested your fruit trees, this is the time to prune those as well once the fruit is gone. If needed, this is a good time to plant or transplant fruit day crops as well. The Farmers Almanac also advises that through the 13th, it’s a poor time for planting. It is a good good time for ridding your garden of pests and clearing land.
- As the moon is ascending and the earth is taking a deep breath out, it’s time to use liquid treatments on the tops of the plants for nutrients or to rid your plants of pests
- The moon has now moved into Perigee so remember; no harvesting root plants. This is a time when they hold too much water and too much water causes rot in storage. This is also a great time to deadhead those already blooming spring flowers.
Wednesday, June 12th – Friday, June 14th | Virgo

Wednesday moves us in with Virgo and our Root Days. You’re going to want to care for the plants that fruit underground, radishes, potatoes, edible bulbs, onions, etc. It’s also a good time to separate and transplant items that need spread out. This is also a good time for canning if you have things that are ready as well as continuing to rid your garden of pests, both bugs and weeds.

On Saturday, the 15th through Sunday the 16th we are moving with Libra, our next cycle of Flower Days. This is the time for tending flowers, broccoli, roses, all edible flowers, cauliflower, and artichokes, all of the lovely plants that bloom above the ground. It’s also a good time to harvest hay. This is the time when you want to thin plants like cauliflower and broccoli.
The Farmers Almanac notes that it is a good time to plant grains or forage plants that fruit above ground. If you make teas or crafts with flowers, this is a great time to harvest flowers and leaves for tea, cut flowers, or for drying or pressing. Make sure these are all stored in a dark dry place.
- As the moon is ascending for a few more days, the earth is taking a deep breath out, it’s time to use liquid treatments on the tops of the plants for nutrients or to rid your plants of pests
- On Saturday, the moon will move into descension and this is going to be the best time to plant or transplant root crops. This is also going to be the best time to apply any sprays as the soil will take the nutrients in as the earth inhales.
- The moon is in Perigee through Friday so remember; no harvesting root plants. This is a time when they hold too much water and too much water causes rot in storage. This is also a great time to deadhead those already blooming spring flowers.
- On Saturday, the moon will move into apogee and the farthest from the planet, again making it a good time to sow seeds, bulbs, and starts. It could be a good day to catch up if you have plants that need to be put in before it’s too late.
This Week’s Closing Moon Gardening Notes
The herbs are growing, we are starting to get blooms on our squash, the daffodils are gone and the gladiolus spikes are about 2 feet tall. The season is turning to summer which means we are finally having warmer days with no rain in the Pacific Northwest. We should have strawberries in about a month and the fruit trees all have buds. It’s such a fresh exciting time of year as everything is new and green, coming to life in a big way.
Remember that the moon is both, going into ascension and into apogee on Saturday making us change directions. To learn more about this, check out my introduction to Gardening by the Moon. Please check the weather and the hardiness zone map to make sure you don’t plant too early. There is nothing more frustrating than losing delicate starts to a late frost. The Farmer’s Almanac is always a great resource for gardening information.
This gardening horoscope is written for the northern hemisphere in the Western United States and while the rules will be the same, the dates/times of year, of course, will change. This is this week’s gardening plan based on the constellations, descension/ascension, and the details we discussed in Gardening By the Moon #1: An Easy Astrological Guide. I have also consulted the Farmers Almanac. and the book, Biodunamic Gardening referenced below.
Happy gardening and may the blessings of spring bring happiness to your heart, curiosity to your mind, and magic into your life.
