Comedy films have seen many changes in content and actors over the years. Over the last few decades, many comedians have become well-known in the genre. Ranging from parody comedy to animated movies, these comedy actors have or are soon becoming the faces of comedy. Like many pieces of media, they see changes throughout the year. This is not only from their content but also from who became a well-known face in the comedy genre. Today, let’s look at some of the ever-changing faces of comedy films throughout the years.

Bob Hope 

One of the most well-known faces of comedy, Bob Hope, has been featured in over 70 films and starred in 54. His career lasted 80 years before he died in 2003. During his career, he starred in comedy films like The Facts of Life, Road to Rio, and Eight on the Lam. Hope also entertained soldiers during World War II and the Vietnam War. Still 20 years after his death, Bob Hope continues to inspire future comedians. 

Eddie Murphy

Although he started doing stand-up, Eddie Murphy quickly became a known face in comedy films. From the 1980s comedy hit Beverly Hill Cop to voicing Donkey in the beloved Shrek movies. Still, to this day, he is one of the most recognizable faces of comedy. Murphy has shown his talent as a comedian, which can be utilized with just his voice acting or putting on a costume. Showcasing he is a jack of all trades in comedy films. 

Pauly Shore

Starting stand-up at just seventeen years old, Pauly Shore quickly became a face of nineties comedies. He is most recognized for his cool California guy fry voice and iconic laugh. Shore starred in over-the-top comedy films like Son in Law, In The Army Now, and Bio-Dome. Today, he lends his voice to animated movies like Pinocchio: A True Story. Shore also played Richard Simmons in the short film The Court Jester. 

Anna Faris

 Most known for his role as Cindy in the Scary Movie franchise. Anna Faris is one of the most effortless comedians yet. Aside from starring in the popular horror parody movie Scary Movie. She has also been the face of comedy films The House Bunny, Smiley Face, and Take Me Home Tonight. While she is most known for playing aire-headed type characters. Faris’s natural talent for it makes her roles even more hilarious and iconic. 

Amy Poehler 

Getting her start on SNL, Amy Poehler has been a trailblazer in the comedy world. However, she is most known for his role as Leslie Knope in the comedy series Parks and Recreation. Poehler has starred in many comedy films like Baby Mama, Blades of Glory, and Sisters. She is also the voice of Joy in the Disney Pixar Inside Out movies. Poehler remains one of the most iconic faces in comedy films for modern times. 

Pete Davidson

Also getting his start on SNL, Pete Davidson has quickly become a famous comedian for the younger generation. Before he was cast on SNL, he started his career in minor acting roles. Now, he has starred in significant comedy films and has become a recognizable figure. So far, he has starred in movies like the horror comedy Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. As well as the dark comedy he helped write The King of Staten Island. 

Ayo Edebiri 

A rising star in the comedy film world, Ayo Edebiri is becoming a trailblazer for Gen Z. She has recently made headlines by starring in comedy hits like Bottoms and Theater Camp. She also voiced Envy in Inside Out 2 alongside Pohler. Although she’s in the early stages of her career, there is no denying that Edebiri is becoming one of the faces of comedy. Her quick wit and hilarious delivery of her roles will soon inspire comedians in the future. 

Final Thoughts On The Changing Faces Of Comedy Films 

Genres of films having ever-changing faces of their movies are not unusual. However, comedians of the past inspire future and up-and-coming comedians. Although one comedian might not be considered the face of comedy films, their impact is still significant. Their movies, whether some jokes may be outdated or not, still impacted the comedy genre. And will continue to inspire comedians of the future.
