Chris Brown Freed on $6.7M Bail: Shocking London Assault

Chris Brown

On May 21, 2025, Chris Brown got bail in London following his arrest last year for an assault at a nightclub. The court allowed Brown to prepare for his world concert tour by setting his bail at £5 million ($6.7 million). Police brought charges against Brown for grievous bodily harm after he allegedly attacked music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, in February this year.

Brown arrived in Manchester on a private flight last week, marking his first return to the UK since the alleged attack. Police arrested him at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on May 15, 2025, and charged him after reviewing CCTV footage that reportedly shows Brown striking Diaw with a tequila bottle. The court initially denied bail on May 16, citing the severity of the charge, but Judge Tony Baumgartner granted the renewed bail request at Southwark Crown Court.

Court Conditions and Tour Schedule

The court imposed specific conditions on Chris Brown’s release. He must pay £4 million immediately and an additional £1 million within seven days. No country would grant Brown a new passport, except to allow him to participate in his “Breezy Bowl XX” shows starting on June 8 in Amsterdam. The first five concerts will take place in the UK in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Birmingham, and Glasgow on June 15 before heading to the U.S. on July 30.

Chris Brown will appear again in court on June 20, 2025, at Southwark Crown Court, at the same time as another defendant. A further case management hearing is set for October 24, 2025. The singer has not yet entered a plea for the charge. His legal team, led by attorney Grace Forbes, emphasized that Brown poses no flight risk, supporting the successful bail application.

Details of the 2023 Nightclub Incident

It happened during the UK tour earlier this year on February 19, 2023. In her statement, Prosecutor Hannah Nicholls said Brown set upon Diaw with a bottle, pursued him, and inflicted punches and kicks. A video from security cameras at the nightclub recorded the whole altercation. Chris Brown now faces a $16 million civil lawsuit because of his actions, as reports state.

Authorities also charged a second suspect, Omololu Akinlolu, in connection with the same incident. In Dallas, where Hoody Baby lives, a 38-year-old rapper named Akinlolu is being charged with grievous harm with intent. He was expected to stand before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on the appointed day. While they said Akinlolu was part of the incident at the club, police did not explain what his role was.

The case is still before the courts.

Chris Brown’s Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Brown’s legal proceedings continue as he prepares for his tour. The June 20 hearing will address plea and trial preparations, with the case escalating due to its severity. The singer remained silent during his initial court appearance, confirming only his name, birthdate, and hotel address. He was outfitted in a black Nike tracksuit and gave little outward response to anything happening.

Because Chris Brown is famous for his two Grammy wins and songs such as “Loyal” and “Run It,” the case has attracted attention. So far, no information has come from Brown or his team about whether the tour can continue as planned after his release. The court’s decision ensures Brown can fulfill professional commitments while adhering to legal obligations.
