At the moment, authorities are unsure of her cause of death, and there will be an investigation into it. Anne Burrell inspired so many to cook and filled our homes with her love and joy of cooking. She was loved by many and will be missed by even more.
Anne Burrell Unexpectedly Passes Away
Food Network star and beloved chef Anne Burrell tragically passed away in her home in Brooklyn on June 17, 2025. According to TMZ, Burrell was found unresponsive in her home, and paramedics were called. They were unable to revive her, and she was declared dead at the scene. A medical examiner will determine the cause of her death.
Anne Burrell’s Career and Legacy
We first met her when she was a sous chef on Iron Chef America. She then went on to have several seasons of her Emmy-nominated show, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which ran for nine seasons starting in 2008.
Anne was so incredibly loved by fans that she appeared on several other Food Network shows like Worst Cooks In America, Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently, House of Knives.
She also wrote two cookbooks, one of which became a bestseller, and was heavily involved with charity work. She served on the advisory board of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, was a celebrity ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and was a dedicated member of City Harvest’s Food Council.
Food Network released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning. Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
She Was Just Living Life
In the days leading up to her death, Anne Burrell was living her life to the fullest. In her last post to her Instagram, she showed off meeting The Green Lady, an influencer who lived in NYC and simply loved the color green, which is all she wears.
She said, “I ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today!! I’m not going to lie- I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!!”
She also posted that she was attending improv classes at The Second City New York’s training center, where she took improv classes. She and her other classmates put on a show at the center the night before she died.
Anne Burrell was a talented chef and a wonderful person who will truly be missed by all.
