This week, Ryan Garcia and his ex-wife came to a settlement that will cost the professional boxer tens of thousands of dollars every month, but it will also end the restraining order that was recently placed on him.
According to court records, Garcia’s attorney, Andrea Celina Velarde, formally negotiated the agreement and obtained the judge’s approval on Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
Garcia agreed to pay Velarde $23,663 a month as part of the agreement, in addition to up to $20,000 for one of Andrea’s credit card bills. In addition, he promised to cover the cost of her vehicle, as well as her and their two kids’ whole health, vision, and dental insurance.
TRO Granted in July
The court granted Garcia’s ex the restraining order in July after she accused the boxer of threatening her family. The couple stated publicly that they’ve since discussed their issues and want to fix things peacefully. In the documents, Velarde claimed that Garcia came to a restaurant where she was dining on July 19 with her brother. Garcia caused a scene and threatened both siblings, forcing them to flee the restaurant. According to Velarde, Garcia followed her home and remained outside of the house in his vehicle for 10 minutes.
Two days later, Garcia sent her harassing text messages, threatening to put a hit out on her brother if she failed to respond. According to Velarde’s claims in the documents, Garcia’s texts claimed they were at war and that he’d murdered her brother and father. Velarde also claims Garcia harassed her via social media. She also claims he threatened to publicize their sex tapes.
According to the restraining order, Garcia was not to come within 100 yards of Velarde, their children, Velarde’s brother, or her parents. The court also ordered Garcia to move out of the couple’s home and to destroy any explicit videos or photos of Velarde. The end of the restraining order came as no surprise to people following the story. Velarde stated shortly after getting the restraining order that she asked her attorney to ask if she could rescind the order.
Ryan Garcia’s Ongoing Drama
Garcia has also spoken publicly about the issues he’s been dealing with. He insisted he’s never physically harmed Velarde, or her family. The dispute with his ex was not Garcia’s only recent drama. He’s been caught up in a series of public disputes and controversies, including disagreements with his former promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. These tensions escalated after his highly anticipated fight against Gervonta Davis, leading to social media exchanges and public airing of grievances. Garcia has also shared stories on YouTube about alleged abuse.
Final Thoughts
Ryan Garcia’s recent losses—a loss to Gervonta Davis and the firing of seasoned trainer Joe Goossen—have also affected his boxing career. Ryan Garcia plans to restart his career under his new coach, focusing on improving his technique and getting back on track in the lightweight division, and is looking forward to his fights in the upcoming year.
