Per the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the awards were created to “recognize outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts.” Categories include soap operas (General Hospital, Days of Our Lives), talk shows (The Talk, The View), informational programming (Fixer Upper, Homegrown), hosting, and courtroom dramas (Judy Justice, The People’s Court).

Some of the biggest winners at this year’s awards include popular names such as Dick Van Dyke and Kelly Clarkson. Van Dyke took home a historic win as the oldest-ever winner of a Daytime Emmy Award, which he won for his guest role in Days of Our Lives. Clarkson won (for the fourth year in a row!) The most anticipated awards of the year are usually the daytime talk series awards, with popular shows like The Talk, The View, Rachael Ray, and Live! With Regis and Kelly having all taken home awards over the years. The Ellen DeGeneres Show currently holds the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show, with seven wins and eleven total nominations.
