Rapper 50 Cent has shared his thoughts on nearing billionaire status. 50 Cent is one of the biggest names in hip-hop. The Queens, New York native began his music career in the ’90s. However, it wasn’t until 2003 that he became a major player in the industry, thanks to his massively successful debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin. Since then, 50 Cent has achieved more success and started other business ventures, significantly increasing his wealth. Despite being regarded as wealthy, 50 Cent is in no rush to become a billionaire. Let’s find out why.
50 Cent’s Billionaire Status Revealed
Recently, 50 Cent spoke to Us Weekly about his riches. When asked if he was a billionaire yet, the Candy Shop crooner said:
“I don’t quantify the money like that — I quantify the level of successes and wins I’ve achieved. I have far exceeded anyone’s expectations of me. I think my longevity and staying power in the industry have surprised many but that’s what drives me further. [Besides] I’m not in a hurry to reach billionaire status.”
50 Cent shared that he is at a point in his life where he has everything he wants. Hence, he wasn’t in a rush to become a billionaire for the sake of it.
Why 50 Cent Isn’t Rushing to Become a Billionaire
Further into the interview, 50 Cent shed more light on the challenges of being a billionaire. He highlighted the taxes billionaires incur as well as the attention they receive. The rapper explained:
“When people publicly say you’re a billionaire, they come for what you have. The IRS might suddenly decide they want 58 percent of your money. The ambulance chasers, the attorneys — it’s an army of ’em after you. Then you’d have to protect yourself because you have deep pockets.”
50 Cent also shared that there wouldn’t be much difference between being a billionaire and his current wealth status. He emphasized that being a billionaire is much more than accumulating wealth. Instead, it requires building a legacy and helping others. He added:
“People remember those who helped others more than those who just accumulated wealth. They’ll ask, “How did he benefit others? How significant was his success if it didn’t affect other people’s lives?”
Rather than being labeled a billionaire, 50 Cent prefers to be called “very rich.” He explained that being very rich means being surrounded by good people, being happy, and living a high quality of life.
50 Cent Paves the Way for Sire
50 Cent has a soon-to-be-12-year-old son, Sire Jackson, who he shares with his ex, Daphne Joy. During his interview, the proud father said he hopes to leave a fortune for his young son. He revealed that he tries to teach Sire about the business world. However, getting the young lad away from his video game was a struggle. 50 Cent also shared:
“I don’t want to overwhelm him or give him so much where it feels like you’re putting pressure on him to understand things he’s not [ready for]. So it’s really basic stuff, because he’s a young 12. I was off to the races already by the time I was his age. [Laughs] I had a lot more experience.”
The 49-year-old rapper continues to grow his empire. Despite not releasing new music since 2014, 50 Cent’s influence in the industry remains significant. 50 Cent also entered film and television. He owns G-Unit Film and Television, which partners with streaming giants like Netflix, Peacock, Hulu, BET, and Paramount+. The future looks greener for 50 Cent, who could become a billionaire soon despite his reservations.
