Pitbull to Pay $1.2m Per Year for FIU Football Stadium naming rights

On Tuesday, Miami Rapper Armando Christian Pérez, popularly known as Pitbull, was at FIU Stadium to announce their partnership. The FIU Board of Trustees voted in favor of naming the stadium after him and officially signed the deal. 

For the next 5 years, the stadium will be called Pitbull Stadium. The rapper will pay the school $1.2m per year for the agreed duration; of 5 years. In addition, the deal allows the rapper to renew the contract for another 5 years. Florida International University becomes the first college to have a musician’s name on its athletics building. 

Benefits Pitbull Will Enjoy At Pitbull Stadium

Following the signing of the deal, Mr. 305 will; enjoy the following benefits:

  1. He will have the opportunity to use the stadium for 10 days per year for any event he wants. Meaning, he will have 50 days total in the next 5 years to plan concerts in the Pitbull Stadium.
  2. His vodka company; Voli 305 Vodka will be the vodka of choice sold at the stadium.
  3. Guaranteed seats (2) will be reserved for all home football games. 

What FIU expects from Pitbull:

  1. He will have to come up with an anthem for FIU. 
  2. He is expected to post about the school 12 times per year on his social media handles.
  3. He will attend one athletic fundraising event per year.

Pitbull Stadium Facts

According to the FIU website, Pitbull Stadium has a seating capacity of 20,000 and was built in 1995. This is the third time the school has sold the stadium’s naming rights. During its opening in 1995, it was named FIU Community Stadium, until 2001. Then, from 2001 to 2017, it was called the Ocean Bank Field. Lastly, from 2017 to 2022, it was called the Ricardo Silva Stadium. For the last two years, it was known as FIU Stadium for they did not have a sponsor.

FIU Panthers

Pitbull Stadium is home to the FIU Panthers. They started playing football in 2002 and entered the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2004. They have been privileged to play in five bowl games. Unfortunately, they have not been able to win any season since 2008. 

Currently, the team is under coach Mike MacIntyre and is coming off back-to-back 4-8 seasons. Therefore, the deal with Pitbull would not have come out better than this. The partnership will give them much-needed media coverage. The first game in Pitbull Stadium will be on September 7th, the Panthers will play against Central Michigan
