Jane’s Addiction is on their first tour since 2010, featuring their original lineup: vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Jesse Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. Avery had rejoined the band in May, while Navarro had returned to the band from a long break to recover from COVID. The band currently has 15 spectacular performances planned for the future.
Things turned sour during a concert in Boston on Friday, however. During a performance of the song “Ocean Size,” Jane’s Addiction lead vocalist Perry Farrell clashed with guitarist Dave Navarro. Farrell walked toward Navarro and shoved him with his right shoulder. Farrell stepped back a few feet before moving towards Navarro again, this time angrily screaming in Navarro’s face. Navarro tried to make some space by pushing Farrell away with his forearm, leading Farrell to punch Navarro in the chest.

The band was set to perform at least three to four more songs after “Ocean Size,” but they didn’t get to the stage back after the fight. Fans were expecting more from the show and were shocked by the fight that caused the abrupt end of the performance. Representatives for Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction, and Live Nation have not yet commented on the incident, despite Entertainment Weekly‘s request for a statement.
Etty Lau Farrell’s Social Media Post
Wife of Perry Farrell, Etty Lau Farrell later gave her side of the story in an Instagram post she wrote on Saturday morning. She pointed to the increasing hatred and hostility between the band members as the dynamite that set off the confrontation. She said that after several nights, Perry Farrell’s frustrating was mounting due to the high stage volume, which he thought was overpowering his vocal outputs.
Etty Farrell explained that her husband had been having tinnitus and a sore throat, both of which had been made worse by the loud volume being used on stage. The issue escalated when fans in the front row complained about the noise, which caused Farrell to lose his temper. She said although fans videoed the event, they only captured part of it.
She thought that after a while, Navarro tried to calm her husband down. Then she noticed the band’s bassist Eric Avery joined in on the confrontation, putting Perry into a headlock and then punching him in the stomach and on the head three times. A crew member separated Avery from Farrell; Avery then stormed to the front of the stage to tell the crowd that the show was over early.
Aftermath And Reactions
Etty Farrell said that Perry Farrell was not even fazed during the fight, while Navarro looked more like he was actually in one. Eventually, though, Perry finally sat down and wept. While describing her husband as a “mad beast” during the confrontation, Etty also accused Avery of either not understanding how to deescalate a situation or using the opportunity to land some “low blows” on Perry.
