Rumors have been swirling that Nicki Minaj has been arrested across the pond recently. The details around the incident are still a little hazy, but we’ve been getting greater clarity over time regarding the incident. Minaj is currently in Europe, where she is scheduled to stay all of June and into July.
Will her arrest throw a wrench in Nicki Minaj’s plan? Will she lose the support of some of her less-die-hard fans? Hopefully, any delays in her arrest will not impact her Pink Friday 2 world tour. Minaj has not had the best press this year, and an arrest is the last thing she needed.
Nicki Minaj Arrested In Amsterdam?
On Saturday, Minaj revealed that she was arrested at the Amsterdam airport. She posted several videos of the incident on her Instagram, which you can find here. The footage started in the middle of an interaction with Nicki Minaj and what appears to be an airport employee.
It’s not totally clear what happened at this time, but it appears based on footage allegedly that the employee told Minaj that her bags needed to be unloaded from the plane to be searched. They were not searched before being loaded. The airport employee offered up two reasons: the search was random, and the search was ordered by a police officer who saw Nicki Minaj filming him. It’s unclear which explanation is true.
There was an Instagram live video showing Minaj surrounded by police officers, as she is told she is under arrest. Nicki said she planned on waiting for her lawyer to arrive, but was cajoled into the police van for a ride to the precinct. What a scary experience!
Is Minaj In Police Custody?
Minaj is no longer under police custody. She was detained for a few hours and let go. It was still long enough to disrupt her tour, forcing her to cancel her next appearance.
Nicki Minaj tweeted this about the incident: “now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls. Keep in mind they took my bags without consent. My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yea & the pilot wants me to take my ig post down.”
The police tweeted that they released and fined an American woman who they believed was trying to export soft drugs. They also said she was able to continue on with her journey. Although Nicki Minaj was detained in Amsterdam, she was flying to Manchester, England, where cannabis is illegal. That is likely where they got the “exporting” idea from, although that was likely not on Minaj’s mind at all. She believes the powers that be are attempting to sabotage her tour.
Pink Friday 2 World Tour Problems?
Nicki apologized to her Manchester fans for the cancelled concert via X. Hopefully fans will take this message to heart because many are furious. People had to pay to travel to the concert, and some individuals took time off from work to attend. Some fans were more forgiving, but they were still frustrated with the concert venue for not sharing the details that the event would be cancelled sooner.
Nicki Minaj plans to reschedule the stop on her tour and have a special bonus for her fans who were inconvenienced by her arrest. Give Nicki another chance, fans. She’ll be back in Manchester on May 30th.
