MrBeast Rises to Fame
Jimmy Donaldson has been a superstar on the YouTube platform for many years under the pseudonym MrBeast. MrBeast has a mass of over 300 million subscribers on his main channel and another 160 million spread out throughout the rest of his channels. Mr. Beast is a mastermind when it comes to making trending content, and almost every single one of his videos will garner close to 100 million views.
The millionaire YouTuber doesn’t spend his money frivolously, for he invests all of it back into his content amongst other philanthropic deeds such as creating neighborhoods for struggling families across the world or even paying for cataract surgeries to help people regain their sight in impoverished communities. Unfortunately, even someone who gives so much of their wealth back to their fans and the world faces backlash against recent and past events.
The First Allegations
One of the first events that snowballed MrBeast’s controversies was his connection to Ava Chris Tyson after she was accused of inappropriate conversations with a minor. Meanwhile, other accusations came forward about Mr. Beast’s friend Ava; for example, another former employee of Mr. Beast accused Ava of sexually assaulting them. Ava denies all accusations of sexual assault. To add to the list of allegations, participants of the soon-to-be-released Amazon TV show Beast Games made their complaints about unsafe working conditions, which included poor sleeping, eating, and medication practices during the production.
One contestant reported that they received very little food and getting medication took over two hours. Lastly, past videos of MrBeast resurfaced of him making racially insensitive jokes, forcing him to publicly apologize for his actions. Mr. Beast attempted to execute everything he could to control the damage of all the allegations, including hiring his investigator on the Ava Kris Tyson incident.
Drama Continues
Even if all of that wasn’t enough for the creator, he now faces backlash for his newest creation and collaboration, Lunchly, which he partnered with Logan Paul and KSI’s beverage company Prime to create. Fans of the massive influencers are disappointed in the product because they are marketing to young children and ripping off an already-made product called Lunchables. While the lunchbox company is attempting to be healthier than its competitors, critics are not fans of the project, saying it’s just another money-grab influencer product created to take parents’ money out of their pockets.
The influencers KSI and Logan Paul responded to the backlash by almost making fun of the complaints being made, even turning their response into a promotion for the product. Regardless of the accumulated controversies surrounding MrBeast, the company continues production on all its content, including the YouTube channel. Most recently, Mr. Beast released a video on September 28th, 2024, titled 100 Identical Twins Fight for $250,000. Meanwhile, his views and engagement do not seem to be greatly affected at this time, leaving the content creator relatively unscathed.
