“No one could tell me that there’s no God,” says Kel Mitchell, 90’s pop culture icon and star of Nickelodeon’s “All That” as well as the popular spin-off, “Kenan and Kel.” What makes him so sure? Well, after a particularly supernatural experience, this Christian actor and youth pastor of Spirit Food Christian Center in Winnetka, California, has a whole new outlook on the spiritual warfare within. So, what happened? And why did the actor decide that it was time to seek God?

Kel Mitchell Addresses His Failed Marriage

In an interview with Shannon Sharpe, on the weekly Club Shay Shay podcast, Kel Mitchell talked about the struggles of his past and how they led him to his faith. Kel Mitchell speaks of his ex-wife, Tyisha Hampton (who he doesn’t actually mention by name in the interview). The two married in 1999 and remained so until 2005. According to Kel Mitchell, theirs was not an easy marriage.

During the course of their relationship, the actor claims that Tyisha was not monogamous and goes so far as to tell the interviewer that while their relationship was still fairly new, Tyisha had an abortion.

“We had the abortion. But then we had [another] baby. And she ended up telling me that the baby that was aborted wasn’t mine, and so within that process, you are immediately married within a lie already,”

While Hampton maintains that she was faithful during the course of the relationship and that it was Mitchell who suffered from a sex addiction brought on by abuse in the entertainment industry, Mitchell reveals during the course of the interview that while they were together, Hampton cheated on him continuously and had multiple abortions.

Kel Mitchell describes his divorce from Hampton as “very traumatic” and the failure of this relationship was a major situation that catapulted him into rededicating his life to God. After pitching a movie idea to Cedric the Entertainer, Mitchell got to work on it with multiple actors, including Chico Benymon who introduced him to his mother, an evangelist.

An Untimely Exorcism: Kel Mitchell Tells All

A prayer meeting was put together by Chico Benymon; there were many actors in attendance, one of which was Kel Mitchell. It was during this gathering that Mitchell found deliverance from things that he did not know he possessed.

“She [evangelist] started praying over us. There was this moment where everybody just started spitting up, throwing up. … It was like a really exorcist type of moment.”

While in prayer, Benymon’s mother begins to be aware of Mitchell and speaks on things that he’s going through. She tells him that there’s someone in his life that he will need to forgive, and like something out of a movie, she encourages him to say the name of the person out loud and forgive them. As Kel Mitchell speaks his ex’s name, he is overcome with spiritual forces. With the guidance of Benymon’s mother, the evangelist, he is encouraged to plead the blood of Jesus as he prays.

“In this moment now all my friends are here…they’re seeing me and what is happening. Within this process, demons start like literally speaking out their name. I’m saying their names out loud, but they’re coming out of my body. Each one is saying who they are, so imagine I’m watching this as this is happening to me,”

“They’re literally going, ‘I’m such and such,’ and my body will contort and be something totally different as this is talking, and I’m spinning out and as this is going on… finally, I’m tired after like an hour of warring within the spirit.” Mitchell remembers.

Mitchell goes on to say that after this experience he went to the bathroom, feeling like he had just completed a vigorous workout. His face was bright, and clear and he knew one thing for certain, “I understood that this is spiritual warfare that we’re dealing with.”

Kel Mitchell Hexed by Ex-Wife?

During the Club Shay Shay interview with Shannon Sharpe, Mitchell also mentions that according to the evangelist, his ex may have gone so far as to “put a hex” on him but in this case, it might not have exactly been a love spell. The 90s pop culture icon and actor Kel Mitchell concedes that their relationship was toxic and while this interview was entertaining (to say the least), it certainly did nothing to alleviate the tension between him and his ex.

Ex-wife Tyisha Hampton refutes all allegations of witchcraft of course, and also pointed the finger right back at Kel Mitchell, claiming that she once caught him in bed with a man while they were together. Is there any truth to any of this? We may never know, but one thing is for certain:

Hex or not, Mitchell’s daughter has unsurprisingly come to her mother’s defense since this interview:

“Dad I honestly don’t understand why you keep putting this out here when I’ve told you how men have been contacting me calling me a slut cause of my mother,” says the actor’s daughter, Allure.

“I am your daughter…And as a woman, I am so disappointed in you. I’d choose a bear over a man,”

Allure is of course referencing the trending TikTok conversation currently circulating. All spellbinding aside, Kel Mitchell has not publicly responded to either his ex or his daughter and with the current animosity between them, it may be time for another spiritual cleansing.
