The Legacy Behind Voltron
The original release of the Voltron TV series came out in 1984 and was produced by World Events Productions for a total of 124 episodes. Voltron was adapted from the Japanese television series Beast King Go-Lion by Toei Animation for an American audience. The adaptation team eventually used the Japanese television show Armored Fleet Dairugger XV as the inspiration for their following season.
Voltron: Defenders of the Universe became the top-rated syndicated show for children two years in a row. The massive success allowed the franchise to expand into more avenues like comic books, toys, and even more TV series. Since 1984, there have been six different spin-off shows or installments of the series.
The Live-Action Casting
Almost 20 years ago, in 2005, producer Mark Gordon announced that he had plans to create a live-action film adaptation of the Voltron franchise; however, due to many back-end complications taking place during negotiations, the film never made it to production. However, there has been a recent development in the story.
In March 2022, the Voltron live-action film was back in production and went through a bidding war between Warner Brothers Pictures, Universal Pictures, and Amazon Prime Video. Amazon officially gained the rights to the film later that year. The franchise’s production team announced that Daniel Quinn-Toye would lead the cast and even added Henry Cavill to the list of actors on the roster.
While Cavill has been publicly announced in the film, his character has not. Leaving fans to speculate who the legendary superhero actor will portray in the new film. Henry Cavill has been a part of many large blockbuster productions. For Example, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, Justice League, The Witcher, and Black Adam.
