In his post, Elton John told fans on Facebook and Instagram that his ordeal has been lengthy. He indicated the eye infection has been an ordeal that has persisted most of the summer months. In his message, John indicated his recovery will “take some time” before his sight returns. John said he was grateful for his family, doctors, and nurses who have provided his care for the last several weeks. John continued, stating that he has had a quiet summer at home while receiving medical care. Despite the loss of vision, John said he is feeling positive about his recovery from the infection.
Fans Respond
Fans of Elton John responded to his message with overwhelming support for the British musician’s recovery. One Facebook user thanked John for making a first-hand message to fans. On this social media platform, approximately 18 thousand people responded with an emoji, while 3.2 thousand individuals wrote personal well wishes to John by Thursday.
John’s message seemed to go further on Instagram. The post was liked by over 350,000 Instagram users by Thursday, and it drew over 6,000 comments. The “Rocketman” singer drew responses from a plethora of celebrity accounts, including Chappel Roan, Donatella Versace, Al Roker, Billie-Jean King, Billy Porter, and even the “Piano Man” himself, Billy Joel.
History of Health Issues
It was noted by several news outlets that health concerns have become more frequent for John in recent years. An article published by NPR stated John’s first notable health issue was in 2020. On Feb. 16, it was reported John lost his voice mid-show in Auckland, New Zealand. He ended the show early after playing 15 of his 25-song playlist.
According to an article published by USA Today, John rescheduled shows from the United Kingdom and European legs of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour in 2021. At that time, John sustained a fall, which led to mobility issues. Instead of performing, he went under the knife for hip surgery.
In August 2023, Elton John suffered a slip, which resulted in a brief hospitalization. While at his home in the south of France, John had what was described as “a slip” by author Kimi Robinson for USA Today. Elton John’s hospitalization was labeled as a precautionary measure, and he was discharged after check-ups.
Support for Elton John
Fans of Elton John seemed relieved that the artist was “feeling positive” in his social media statement. They have stood behind him when he has health issues in the past, and there was no shortage of support with Tuesday’s message. As an artist who has previously pushed his limits to perform through ailments for fans, it was inspiring to see fans send their support for a full recovery.
