Danielle Fishel of ‘Boy Meets World’ shocked every 90s kid to their core when she announced via her podcast that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is that she caught it very early; everyone can exhale after that terrible news. Find out below more about how Fishel discovered her cancer diagnosis, how she is coping with the news, and a very special message from her that she wants her entire audience to hear.
The Cancer Diagnosis
On Danielle Fishel’s podcast, ‘Boy Meets Pod’ on Monday, the star announced her scary diagnosis. She was quoted as saying, “I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer. It is very, very, very early. It’s technically stage zero. To be specific, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion. And I’m going to be fine. I’m having surgery to remove it. I’m going to be on some follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days.”
DCIS is the term for breast cancer at “stage zero,” and nearly everyone who is diagnosed at that point survives the cancer. A person can be more predisposed to developing breast cancer in the future, but the general prognosis over time is very positive. Interestingly, this type of cancer exists in the milk ducts of the breast and does not spread to the other breast tissue.
Communicating About Cancer
Danielle Fishel is quite open about her struggle with the diagnosis. She felt she would likely tell people close to her about it and deal with it internally. However, she has decided to be more open with people. Fishel has had a chance to speak with other people who’ve been diagnosed with cancer or experienced a family member being diagnosed, and she has found it helpful for herself and others. She has also used the opportunity to communicate an important message to her podcast audience.

As if Danielle Fishel could be any more selfless in the midst of her cancer diagnosis, she takes the extra step. The Boy Meets World star reminded everyone with breasts to get a mammogram. She immediately signed up for a mammogram as soon as she got a text from her doctor, and that’s how the cancer was caught so early. She wants everyone to get out there and get that test. The earlier you can catch it, the better. Get your yearly exam; Danielle Fishel said so!
In Conclusion
Danielle Fishel caught the cancer right away, thankfully, so hopefully she will have a quick and uneventful recovery. It’s a beautiful thing that Topanga is using her own health scare to educate people. People do not have to suffer alone, and we are more powerful together. Fishel has shown she understands the importance of community by sharing her cancer diagnosis with the world and not just struggling alone. This is a truly fantastic example for us all.
