Celebrity Deaths of 2024: The Stars Who Broke Our Hearts

Many well-known Hollywood and other celebrity figures will have to say their goodbyes before 2024. These are those that we grew up watching, who inspired us, made us laugh, and sometimes moved us to tears. Their death seems very personal, almost like losing a piece of our history. Yet, as we remember them, we’re reminded of the joy and beautiful memories they’ve given us. Let’s take a moment to honor their journeys and celebrate the mark they have left in our hearts.

Liam Payne

Liam Payne, the pop singer of formerly famous boy band One Direction, died on October 16 after falling from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel. He was 31. Payne had gone to Argentina to see his former bandmate Niall Horan perform live.

Born in 1991, Payne joined One Direction with Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson after individually auditioning for the British television competition The X Factor in 2010. The trio recorded five albums in six years before taking an indefinite hiatus in 2016. Payne, the legend celebrity, composed numerous songs for the band, including ‘Story of My Life,’ ‘Steal My Girl,’ and ‘Ready to Run.’

Gavin Creel

Gavin Creel, a Tony and Olivier Award-winning stage actor, died on September 30 of cancer. This celebrity was 48. He made his Broadway debut in 2002, costarring with Sutton Foster in Thoroughly Modern Millie and receiving his first Tony Award nomination. He eventually got the award for his performance in the 2017 staging of Hello, Dolly! 

In addition to the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle honors, Creel’s earlier roles have included Hair, Waitress, Into the Woods, and The Book of Mormon. He also received an Olivier Award. Creel has proved his acting skills in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Stories and the television films Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime.

J.D. Souther

John David ‘J.D.’ Souther, 78, a musician and songwriter best known for his work with 1970s California bands the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, died on September 17. Souther was born in Detroit on November 2, 1945, and raised in Amarillo, Texas, before migrating to Los Angeles in the late 1960s, where he had his greatest success.

In addition to his long career as a solo artist, Souther composed Eagles classics such as ‘Best of My Love’ and ‘James Dean,’ as well as co-writing ‘Heartache Tonight.’ This celebrity dated Ronstadt and recorded many duets with her, including ‘Prisoner in Disguise’ and ‘Hearts Against the Wind.’

Emily Gold

Los Osos High School dance team member, Emily Gold, tragically died on September 14 by suicide. She competed in the 19th season of America’s Got Talent. After the trio did routines to Usher and the Black Eyed Peas, she also played with other bands during tryouts. Emily Gold was a part of the quarterfinals before they were eliminated.

According to Famous Freakin’ Talent, the young dancer’s relatives and friends raised more than $50,000 for her family after her death. They earned this amount for Emily’s parents, Steven and Brandy Gold with a GoFundMe campaign.

Kenneth Cope

On September 11, British television actor Kenneth Cope died at the age of 93. His performances in the 1960s and 1970s garnered him the most fame. This well-known person was born in Liverpool and attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School to study acting. The celebrity had numerous famous roles throughout his career.

Cope played Marty Hopkirk on Randall and Hopkirk, a murdered detective who returns as a ghost to help his surviving partner solve the crime. And Jed Stone in the working-class soap opera Coronation Street, which he played from 1961 to 1966 and reprised in 2008. These are his two most renowned roles. These are his two most renowned roles.
