Former President Barack Obama showed some style with Eminem’s Lose Yourself on Tuesday. The duo was at a Kamala Harris rally in Detroit, Michigan, to support the candidates in the forthcoming election. Eminem had invited Obama to the stage after a short speech encouraging people to vote. The 44th president of the United States then rapped a few lines from his song.
Barack Obama Goes “Rap God” Mode
Death of Slim Shady rapper Eminem invited Barack Obama to the stage at a Harris-Walz rally on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024. The duo was at the rally to drum support for the vice president two weeks before the presidential elections. Shortly before the former president displayed his rap skills, he started his speech by saying, “I gotta say, I have done a lot of rallies, so I don’t usually get nervous, but I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem.”
The former president then eased into the “Rap God’s” Lose Yourself‘s opening lines, saying, “I notice my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on my sweater already, mom’s spaghetti, I’m nervous but on the surface I look calm and ready to drop bombs but I keep on forgetting …” As the crowd erupted in cheers, Obama quipped that he thought he would be a guest star during Eminem’s performance. He added that he was a big fan of the rapper.
Barack Obama Slams Donald Trump
Barack Obama also targeted former President Donald Trump, who lost the last election. He expressed his angst at the distasteful manner in which Trump conducted himself in the previous elections. Obama shared that Trump’s “lies” about voter fraud in Michigan spread anxiety and fear while the ballots were being counted. Obama said Trump did this because he “couldn’t accept losing,” showing that the latter didn’t think about anyone but himself.
Barack Obama also questioned Trump’s mental acuity for the role of president. He compared the billionaire to a grandfather everyone would be worried about if “Grandpa was acting like this.” Obama also reminded the crowd of Trump’s stunt earlier this week. The entrepreneur had worked in a closed McDonald’s kitchen and drive-thru counter to mock Kamala Harris. Harris claimed that she worked at the franchise in college to pay her bills. “She did not pretend to work at McDonald’s when it was closed,” told the former president.
Eminem’s Support for the Harris-Walz Ticket
Before introducing Barack Obama, Eminem, who will soon become a grandpa, encouraged the crowd to use their voices and vote and not be afraid to express their opinions. The rapper added that America wasn’t a place where people fear retribution after speaking their minds. He also campaigned for Harris, stating that she wants a future where people’s freedom is protected and upheld.
Eminem has always been a vocal Democrat. He supported Barack Obama’s ticket and campaigned for the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020. He also used Lose Yourself in an official campaign ad for the 2020 elections. The song played in the background while he captioned the campaign, “One opportunity…#Vote.” In 2017, he dissed Donald Trump in his rap performance at the BET Awards. According to BuzzFeed, the famous rapper was also interviewed by the Secret Service about his song, Framed.
Conclusion
The “Rap God’s” effort to get people to vote during the elections is commendable. The rapper was passionate about people using their voices to contribute to an improved society. Hopefully, everyone will heed the “Rap God’s” message and vote when the time comes. That way, they can ensure their vote will contribute to a better America.
