CBS Comes Up Big: To Cancel Six Shows Ahead of 2025-26 TV Schedule

CBS

Rumors of upcoming cancellations have been swirling around the internet lately, with CBS reportedly being near to announcing their 2025/2026 lineup. Well, the lineup appears to now be set, and fans are finding out that six different shows will be ending production. Some of the shows were already announced as ending their runs, but others are a bit of a shock to fans expecting another season. At least viewers will have a chance to wrap up the final seasons, as most are airing in the current lineup.

CBS Makes Cuts To Popular Crime Shows, Among Others

In total, six CBS shows are meeting the axe going into next year’s lineup. Of the six cuts, four are to crime or law enforcement-based shows. Blue Bloods is a show that was previously announced to end in the fall of 2024, much to the chagrin of both fans and cast members. In fact, Tom Selleck, an actor on the show, publicly spoke out about the cancellation.

“My biggest goal is to make sure people realize we went out in rather spectacular success. It wasn’t tired, it wasn’t anything else,” Sellick told Entertainment Weekly. “Somebody may be able to tell me someday why CBS wanted to end it, but I haven’t had a good answer yet.”

Two more CBS crime drama shows that are coming to an end are FBI: International and FBI Most Wanted. Both of these shows were already confirmed to be ending in March. As with Blue Bloods, many of the cast members were vocal about the show ending, sharing their thanks for the opportunity and the sadness for the show’s end. Fans were surprised by the cancelation as well, give the two FBI spinoffs appeared to be doing well in critical reception and viewership.

One of the Most Wanted cast members, Keisha Castle-Hughes, shared her thoughts in March. “Thanks to Wolf Films and to CBS, David Hudgins and Ken Girotti, for supporting an incredible run of the show. I will treasure the memories and the friendships built over my time on the series and the years spent. It’s bittersweet, but we are invigorated and determined to close out season 6 with hard work and love. And give you the best season yet! This is for you!”

Meanwhile, Eva-Jane Willis from FBI: International said of the show ending,  “Of course I’m sad the show must come to an end, but I want to thank Wolf Entertainment and CBS for everything: in particular the incredible tour of Europe! We have memories to last us a lifetime!” she told US Weekly. The shows lasted 6 and 4 seasons, respectively.

The final crime drama getting the boot is S.W.A.T. Fans are enduring this loss for the third time, as it had previously been dropped, then brought back two times previously. Actor Shemar Moore did not hide his feelings about the rollercoaster ride CBS put the cast and viewers through. “Uncanceled, canceled, uncanceled twice, two years in a row, Now I don’t know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I’m going to say none or I’m going to say that we’re close to one of the none. But we did that and we are so proud.”

Moore wants the show to continue, and believes that if CBS does not renew it, perhaps another network will. “Hey, Netflix, how you doing? Let me just remind you that in a very short period of time, once upon a time ago, not too long ago, it only took us about two weeks to go from No. 15, No. 12, to No. 1. Hey, I said it. And then we stayed in your top 10, top 15 for about six months, nine months, maybe a year. So Netflix, if you’re interested in a show that is on autopilot that the world is watching, we’d love to come play. NBC, Fox, ABC: Hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue. Pick your favorite restaurant. I will pay the bill.”

Given the popularity of these four shows, it would not be too much of a shock to see other networks pick them up, especially a streaming service. ABC did pick up 9-1-1 from Fox, and years ago did the same for American Idol, so it would not be unheard of to see one of several of the shows move networks. The FBI spinoffs may be the toughest, though, given the original FBI is still airing on CBS.

CBS Axes Two Additional Shows Almost Before They Even Started

Two shows that did not get renewed only made it to one season. One such show was a new reality show, The Summit, which aired after Survivor. Hosted by Manu Bennett, the show had 16 contestants with no mountain climbing experience compete in treacherous terrain as they attempted to climb to the top of the mountain and secure a cash prize. Of course, some rules and vote-outs altered the course of the game. The game had an intriguing concept, but the execution was not enough to convince CBS to try a second time.

The other show being axed after just one season is the CBS comedy Poppa’s House, starring Marlon Wayans and Marlon Wayans Jr. The elder took to Instagram to react to the end of the family comedy affair.

Creating Poppa’s house was such a beautiful journey. My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa’s House such a meaningful experience. To the incredible cast you brought so much heart, soul, and joy to every scene. It was an absolute honor to share the screen with you and create something special together. To the writers, producers, directors, and the entire crew you were the heartbeat of this show. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and for showing up every day with love and commitment. You made the set feel like home.

A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life. And to my incredible family, siblings, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who showed up as writers, guest stars, and creative forces you made this journey even more meaningful. It’s such a blessing to have so much love on one set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends. Though Poppa’s House is coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could’ve ever imagined. To everyone who watched, supported, and believed in us thank you. Your love means everything. On to the next chapter, with nothing but love in my heart.

One other show already known to be ending is The Neighborhood, and two spinoff series ideas that never actually made it to air, one for The Neighborhood and another for The Equalizer, also appear to be scrapped by CBS. Hopefully, CBS will choose to fill these slots with other shows and dramas that will fill the void left in fans’ hearts as some of their favorites end too soon. As more is announced about the upcoming television lineups, more analysis will be provided.
