Nev Schulman, the host of MTV’s show Catfish, 39, has recently announced that he’s been through a terrifying bicycle accident. He was on his way to pick his son up from school but made it to a Southampton, New York hospital instead with a broken helmet and neck. He could have been left paralyzed, with life-threatening injuries, or even worse but thankfully, that’s not the case. Doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery but the accident left him shocked but thankful that it could have been worse.

The Catfish host was on his way to bring his son, Cy, back from school on his bicycle in New York. Suddenly, a truck hit him, and then it was him and the pavement, having lost consciousness and then he regained it. Schulman broke the shocking news in an Instagram post, giving a detailed insight into his fractures and state. He posted X-rays showing stable fractures in his C5 and C6 vertebrae. Although, per what he said, his hands “were a question mark there for a minute,” thankfully, it turned out to be a false alarm. He had to undergo surgery, though, leaving behind a purple scar on the back of his neck, which shows how serious his injuries were.

This experience left the Catfish host grateful to be alive and better than others who have been through worse. In addition, it left him more appreciative of his family which is composed of his wife Laura Perlongo and kids Cleo, Beau, and Cy, and their support. He talked about how he had just spent the day before with his family fishing, being his son’s idea. He added that their fishing trip was unplanned but now, he’s thankful that he said yes to it. Schulman expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff for their help.
Not the First Bicycle Accident
The Catfish host is not the first star to have gone through a bicycle accident. Two months before that, Gordon Ramsay was injured in a drastic bicycle accident, having shown a massive purple bruise on his abdomen. He wouldn’t have made it if he wasn’t wearing a helmet, as well. He was treated at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London, having suffered no major injuries but he claimed that he looked like a “purple potato.” Also, Vampire Diaries superstar Nina Dobrev was also injured in a bicycle accident in May, having needed surgery to repair a fractured knee, her meniscus, and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). She is still recovering from the injuries she sustained to this day.
