Inside Carved: When Pumpkins Attack on Halloween Night

Carved: A Huluween Short

Carved is taking a spin on the creepy creatures that stalk us on Halloween night. Directed by Justin Harding, who also directed a short of the same name for Hulu Bite Size Halloween. The short premiered back in 2018, and now, six years later, Craved is getting a full-length movie. Part of Hulus’ annual Huluween Craved is just one of the many movies set to premiere. Perfect for scary movie nights to come this Halloween season.

What is Carved About?

The original short premiered in 2018, telling the story of a young boy going to a pumpkin patch. While there, he picks an unusual-looking pumpkin from the patch. However, the decision results in a night of horror when the Jack-o-Lantern comes to life. Despite the featured film having a similar premise, it will follow a whole new cast of characters and more killer pumpkins.

The feature film for Carved will follow a young, heartbroken playwright and her younger brother on Halloween night. When a patch of vengeful pumpkins begins to attack, they soon find themselves grouped with other survivors. Trapped in a historical reenactment village, as the pumpkins hunt them, they must band together and fight to survive. Carved’s cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee from Disney’s Doogie Kameloha M.D. and Wyatt Linder.

Other cast members include DJ Qualls and Matty Cardarople, who has made appearances in Fallout and Reservation Dogs. The cast also includes Chris Elliot (Schitts Creek) and Corey Fogelmanis (My Life With The Walter Boys). Harding also wrote the film’s screenplay along with Cheryl Meyer. Carved is part of Worthen Books’ first-look horror slate with Hulu originals. Worthen Books also developed the film with producers David Brooks, Debbie Liebling, Arbi Pedrossian, and Jenna Cavelle. Lorne Raimi, Alex Hansen, and Nick Page are the co-producers. Miles Alva is serving as the executive producer for Carved

Carved is described as a horror comedy, a popular genre for Halloween-based movies. This is also fitting for the films’ out-of-the-box premise of killer pumpkins. Director Harding has also won awards for other horror shorts, Kookie and Latched. He has also worked on the series The Haunted Museum and Restaurant on the Ledge. The feature-length film will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ on Monday, October 21st of this year. At this time, there is no trailer for Carved. Its short film is currently available on both streaming services.

Final Thoughts

The film’s synopsis promises a spooky, bloody good time. Hulu hosts their annual Huluween to produce horror-themed shorts. Carved’s full-feature film is sure to be another film to enjoy many Halloweens to come. Harding’s history of producing award-winning horror movie shorts is a promising sign that Carved will deliver the scares. It’s sure to be another great hit in the Hulu horror original collection.

Other horror movies are set to be released in this year’s Huluween lineup. Including the historical horror Hold Your Breathe starring Sarah Paulson, set in the 1930s Dust Bowl. As well as Mr.Crocket, which follows a mother set to save her song from an evil children’s show host. While planning your Halloween movie nights this spooky season, be sure to include Carved on your scary movie night watchlist.
