Captain Planet Launches Complete Series DVD Set On October 15th

When pollution rises above zero, the Earth calls for its hero – Captain Planet. This 90s animated icon rose to combat the vile evils out to destroy Nature. He also had the help of his trusted quintet of Planeteers. Along with Gaia, the mother of Earth, they educated their viewers on protecting the world. Their ecological escapades ran for six years and are still remembered and appreciated.

The Inspirational Show of Captain Planet

Premiering in 1990, Captain Planet and the Planeteers followed five young heroes fighting for Earth. These Planeteers were chosen by Gaia and given magical rings to aid them. Each ring granted power over an element and summoned Captain Planet when used together. The team of heroes often faced against the Eco-Villains, individuals who embodied ecological crises. They even dealt with a pair of overzealous poachers and Captain Planet’s evil clone. But the show was more than just a series of battles between good and evil.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers educated and entertained its audience. It introduced young minds to real-life global issues like pollution, poaching, and deforestation. The show even addressed social issues such as drug addiction, bullying, and HIV/AIDS. It sought to inspire viewers to protect the planet and help their fellow man. The show became critically acclaimed, winning a Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence. Even after its final airing, the series continued to inspire people and bring about change.

The Legacy of Captain Planet

The Captain Planet show’s message did not solely stay on the small screen. It carried over to action figures, comics, and video games emphasizing ecology. But the show’s co-creator, Barbara Pyle, said the series was never about selling merchandise. Profits from the sales helped to establish the Captain Planet Foundation. It was created during the show’s 1991 broadcast to empower young environmentalists. The organization allowed fans to apply the show’s lessons in real life.

After the show’s conclusion in 1996, there was a massive upsurge of environmental activists. Pyle learned of these real-life Planeteers and created the Barbara Pyle Foundation to support them. Years later, in 2001, the Captain Planet Foundation became a nonprofit charity. This change was due to Time Warner’s merger with AOL. The CPF continued its efforts, exhibiting episodes of the show online in 2007.

Earth’s Hero Returns on DVD

Captain Planet will spread his crucial message to a new generation this October 15th. Warner Bros. Discovery Entertainment will release the entire series on a DVD box set. Entitled Captain Planet: The Complete Franchise, the set will come with all 113 episodes. Fans can share it with their kids, teaching them the same lessons they learned. Hopefully, Captain Planet will inspire a new generation of world-saving environmentalists to protect Earth.
