‘Captain America: Brave New World’ ESPN Clip Showcases Red Hulk’s Explosive Debut

Captain America: Brave New World features Red Hulk

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14th. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has slowed down on releases in the past year. The last movie in the MCU was last summer’s blockbuster hit Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans are eager to see the new direction after news of a new storyline being implemented has been released. As with many Marvel movies, this one features the debut of a fan-favorite character.

Red Hulk will be appearing on screen as Harrison Ford takes over the role of General “Thunderbolt” Ross. Marvel Studios is doing everything it can to hype up the movie. During the College Football National Championship, ESPN gave a sneak peek which gave a great look at Ford’s Red Hulk.

Captain America: Brave New World Red Hulk Sneak Peek

The new clip featured a good ten-second clip of Red Hulk leaping into action. All of the trailers and clips so far have given extremely short glimpses of the character in action. A showdown between Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and the fan-favorite character has been teased heavily. The clip was the best look we’ve had at him engaging in an actual fight. This will likely be all Marvel Studios gives before the release on President’s Day weekend.

Bringing a character like this to life on the big screen is difficult. Every Hulk character has their own unique personality traits. Bruce Banner’s Hulk is different from Red Hulk. There are ability differences, but a big part of the difference is in personality. Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding talked about bringing the character to life in a recent interview.

“The Red Hulk in the comics is not entirely a monster. He has more of a human personality to him. So, we’re trying to create something that felt a little bit more human to match Ross’s personality.”

The onscreen version looks like Harrison Ford, which adds to the humanity of the character. Ford is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood due to his extensive list of famous roles. While fans are excited about this debut, there is plenty of buzz around this movie for other reasons as well.

A New Captain America

Chris Evans as Captain America was a home-run casting decision. Fans loved his portrayal of Steve Rogers. The Disney+ series Falcon & The Winter Soldier chronicled Sam Wilson’s struggle with taking on the helm of the famous hero. By the end of the series, he embraced the role and had one of the best monologues ever in the MCU in the final episode. His performance as Falcon has made fans just as excited to see Mackie’s take on the character.

Furthermore, the movie is billing itself as a political thriller. Giancarlo Esposito’s character utters the line, “You ever ask yourself? Who’s playing who?” hinting towards many twists and turns throughout the movie. It has the feeling that Captain America: Winter Soldier had when it was revealed that Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD over the course of the past 70 years. The trailers promise a storyline full of mystery and action.

Final Thoughts

Captain America: Brave New World has a lot of pressure to perform well. The MCU has taken a lot of criticism lately for its post-Endgame offerings. The studio has pulled back on the amount of content, assuring fans they want to go with quality over quantity. Will this movie usher in a new era for the studio?
