Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection is an upcoming retro game collection starring everyone’s favorite bobcat with attitude, Bubsy. Some of you might be thinking, “who the heck is Bubsy?” while others might be thinking, “what? You’re joking, right? No one was asking for a retro collection of Bubsy games!” No, I’m not joking. The infamous platforming mascot from the nineties is getting a collection of his retro games, despite the fact that none of them are very good.
About Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection
In the nineties, there were many attempts at video game animal mascots to compete with Sonic the Hedgehog, but Bubsy the bobcat is one of the most infamous ones, with his annoying attitude and mediocre-to-bad games. As the trailer for Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection shows, the collection will include all of Bubsy’s console games from the nineties, including a couple of rarities like the Super Famicom version of Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Third Kind, and the Game Boy version of Bubsy II. The collection even includes the famously terrible PlayStation game, Bubsy 3D, which frequently ends up on people’s lists of the worst games ever made.
Why Was Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection Made with So Much Love??
This isn’t a bare-bones collection, either. In addition to goodies like save states and cheats, Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection is chock-full of extras. We’ve got concept art, behind-the-scenes interviews, manuals, comics, and even the pilot of the cancelled Bubsy cartoon show. In addition, there’s a reworked version of Bubsy 3D with analog controls instead of the original version’s tank controls, which means the game might actually be playable now. It looks like Atari is putting almost as much love into this collection as they did with their 50th anniversary collection, Atari 50. How many people were asking for this much care to be put into a Bubsy collection, of all things?
Conclusion
Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection feels like something that would exist in an alternate universe where Bubsy was a beloved game star, but nope, it’s real, and it comes out on September 8. It should be fascinating to look at the extra features and learn the history of how this bobcat became so infamous, not to mention that it will remind us that Mario and Sonic weren’t the only game mascots duking it out in the nineties. However, the love put into this collection might also make you wish the games themselves were better.
