Brandy and Monica kicked off their 27 cities tour The Boy Is Mine last week, but the show is already having a rocky start. Saturday night, Chicago fans didn’t get the whole experience when Brandy left in the middle of the show, mid-song. The “Have You Ever” singer has released a public statement on Instagram explaining the reason for her departure from the stage.

Brandy Breaks Silence on Viral Walk-Off

A video released by TMZ, which is going viral on social media, shows Brandy walking off the stage while performing her song “Baby”. The statement released on Instagram opens with a letter that thanks her fans in Chicago for their support, love, and prayers.

Next, in her apology, the “Moesha” actor continues by explaining that her reason for walking off stage was health-related, due to rehearsal and dehydration. In the letter, Brandy explains:

“After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint,” she wrote, adding that “everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”

Fans React to Brandy’s Shocking Exit

Not wanting to let the fans down, the show must go on, the “Almost Doesn’t Count” singer still tried to perform and even mentioned making adjustments to the show to fit her health concerns, but “it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production.”

After walking off stage, some fans had sympathy for the singer while others were upset because they paid to see both ladies perform. One TikTok user wrote, “And she never came back? this is very unprofessional.” Another TikTok fan had a different reaction and wrote, “Let’s remember that no artist would just walk away knowing thousands of people paid to see them.. let’s remember they are human and obviously something is wrong.”

Brandy Thanks Monica After Onstage Chaos

Monica did complete the show, but many fan was left disappointed because the duo did not get to perform “The Boy Is Mine,” the 90’s hit song the tour is named after. The “Cinderella” actor ended the letter by thanking Monica and the crew and confirming she went to see a doctor.

“I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help me move forward.

Brandy took full accountability for walking off stage, and the tour will continue with both ladies. The Boy Is Mine tour will return to Chicago for another show on October 25th. Joining the ladies on the tour are Kelly Rowland, Muni Long, and Jamal Roberts.
