Boruto is a Japanese manga that originally debuted in 2017. It is a spin-off series and sequel to the critically acclaimed Naruto series. It became wildly popular in Japan upon release, even being voted in the Top 10 anime series in 2017. It was also a commercial success among anime, which is why it caught fans by surprise that the anime would stop production. The wait for fans is over now, though, as Studio Pierrot has confirmed that Boruto is back in production for its second season.
Boruto Deserves To Make A Valiant Return
Baruto: Naruto Next Generation was released as both a manga comic book as well as an anime television series. It even gained enough popularity to earn novel and video game adaptations as well. It was the fifth highest-grossing anime in Japan in 2018, and continued its growth and success for many years. However, Studio Pierrot has been known to halt production on popular anime series in the past, and that again came to fruition with this Naruto spin-off. After 293 episodes, the studio halted production on March 26, 2023.
A little over two years later, it appears the Boruto anime is coming back. Studio Pierrot very subtly slipped the reveal into the franchise’s official page. All the confirmation says is, “A second part has been confirmed.” There was no big announcement, no fanfare, no announcement trailer. Just a few words on a webpage. That said, it is enough to get fans excited for the return of the popular anime and ninja protagonist, and its upcoming release.
Season 2 of Boruto is expected to be called Two Blue Vortex, to continue to follow the plotline of the original manga. That said, they are also missing certain elements from Naruto Next Generations that happened in the manga. Previously, Studio Perriot had confirmed four more original episodes, but it is unclear if and when those will be released, or whether they will be folded over into Two Blue Vortex.
Studio Perriot has also spoken about the change to its approach to anime to help grow the brand. In a previous interview, the president of the studio explained,
I think Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was a major turning point for the anime industry. It was a high-quality work that took a lot of time and a generous budget to make, and it was a big hit when it aired, attracting people from a wide range of age groups. I watched it. Before and after Demon Slayer was announced, I really felt that we had to change the way we create things. Furthermore, other studios were releasing high-quality works on a similar scale, and in Japan, there was an environment where these could be watched on commercial television.
