Breakout Star Wiccan Comes Back for Anticipated Marvel Project

It’s no secret that Marvel Comics has a wide array of magical characters. Some of the most renowned include Doctor Strange, Clea, Loki, and Baron Mordo. But were you aware of the young sorcerer by the name of Wiccan?

He is the son of two prominent characters and a member of the Young Avengers. He’s also quite the popular character in the comics for various reasons. And his fame only grew when the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought him in. Now, the young magic user is taking part in a future project.

The Tale of Wiccan

Billy Kaplan, Wiccan, is the son of The Vision and Wanda Maximoff, Scarlet Witch. He and his twin brother Tommy came into existence from fragments of Mephisto’s soul. After a run-in with the demon, the boys became separated from their parents. Billy went about his new life, discovering his powers and joining the Young Avengers. And, eventually, he and Tommy, now a fellow Young Avenger named Speed, reconnected with Wanda.

Wiccan and his brother Speed debuted in 1986’s The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #12. Since then, he’s been a prominent and popular character in various storylines. He especially achieved remarkable popularity after coming out as gay in 2012. This character eventually found his way into the MCU, first appearing as Billy in WandaVision. He became fleshed out in Agatha All Along, with Joe Locke portraying him.

A Brand-New Marvel Project

The Young Avenger will be headlining an upcoming Marvel five-issue series titled Wiccan: Witches’ Road. This story will continue the one established in the space-centric mini-series by Jonathan Hickman, Imperial. And focus on the titular magic-user journeying to save the life of Hulkling. Of course, he must also deal with a new and dangerous enemy.

Renowned comic writer Wyatt Kennedy will lend his talent to this Marvel story. At the same time, newcomer Andy Pereira will handle the artwork. Additional artists, like Russell, Dauterman, Luciana Vecchio, and Lucas Werneck, will create the covers.

During the announcement, Kennedy expressed excitement over taking Wiccan out of his element. He’s also keen onย getting the chance to explore him as an individual character. Pereira mostly exclaimed enthusiasm over how this series will act as his professional debut. He did, however, reveal he was eager to draw the characters and convey Kennedy’s atmosphere. Unfortunately, we won’t see their work until the series releases later this year.

Final Thoughts

I’m not an avid comic book reader, but Wiccan: Witches’ Road genuinely sounds intriguing. I especially like how it is giving a team character a chance to shine. It somewhat reminds me of the Black Widow movie situation, except with blatant differences.

Honestly, I never knew canonically that Scarlet Witch and Vision had children together. I mean, I was aware of the MCU Billy and Tommy from WandaVision. Yet I legitimately had no idea they existed in the actual comics or had powers. I’ll admit that I want to find this literary series and learn more about Billy. Well, once December 3rd arrives, everyone and I will get a chance to.
