“Muppets Noir:” Roger Langridge Revives The Muppets With New 2026 Comic
Everyone knows the Muppets for their zany humor, but are they known for film noir? Well, “Muppets Noir,” a new standalone comic book that will be released in February 2026, will take the familiar puppets we all know and love and put them in a detective setting. Depending on your tastes, you might think that’s the best idea ever – or the worst idea ever.
“Muppets Noir” – A Weird, Wonderful Idea
As reported by ScreenRant, “Muppets Noir” will be written by Roger Langridge, who also does the illustrations. In the story, Kermit gets whacked on the head with a brick, which knocks him out and sends him into a dream where he becomes “Flip Minnow, P.I.” As the other Muppets try to wake Kermit up, “Flip Minnow, P.I.” navigates the dream world to figure out a whodunnit.
The comic’s illustrations seem to capture the aesthetic of the Muppets. While the sample pages don’t reveal much of the plot, the premise could be used for both humor and suspense. Blending humor and storytelling has always been a high point of the Muppets, so this could be a truly special comic.
This Might Be What the Muppets Need
While the average consumer might wonder about a film noir Muppets story, remember that the Muppets are great at taking on different roles. For example, “The Muppet Christmas Carol” is considered a cherished holiday classic, and “Muppet Treasure Island” sends the puppet heroes into a swashbuckling adventure.
In addition, the Muppets have been in a bit of a slump for the last several years. The public has shown little interest in the various Muppet projects on Disney+, and the last theatrical Muppet movie was “Muppets Most Wanted,” which was way back in 2014. A film noir Muppet story might be exactly what the Muppets need to spice their brand up. In fact, I wish it were being made into a movie or TV special to interest people who don’t read comics.
Final Verdict – Bring On “Muppets Noir!”
“Muppets Noir” looks like it will be a welcome addition to the Muppets brand. The illustrations look fun and colorful, and the premise has plenty of potential for that good old Muppet humor. Perhaps, if the comic sells well, there will be a movie or TV special based on the comic. This could steer the Muppets in the right direction.
