Mortal Thor coming soon!

Mortal Thor #2 Brings Hammer Action Straight at Roxxon

Thor Odinson is one of the most recognized characters Marvel Comics has ever created. The Asgardian God of Thunder has appeared in various media, including movies and animated shows. And a new one is unfolding in the recent comic series, The Mortal Thor.

The Mortal Thor follows the events of the Immortal Thor books by Al Ewing. The story features a new Thor who lives as an Earthling. Currently, the series contains two entries, with the second being released recently. But what adventure did the former Asgardian have in this recent issue?

Recapping the Previous Mortal Thor Issue

The Mortal Thor #1 begins after the hammer-wielding hero’s death at the hands of Loki. Luckily, Thor is reborn on Earth as a Norwegian man from New York City. The downside is that he has no memory of his former life. And his rebirth caused everyone to forget about him and Asgard altogether.

Now named Sigurd Jarlson, the former hero takes a job from Roxxon Construction. But he soon discovers the position was for a working scab. Sigurd publicly denounces Roxxon, rejects the job, and leaves alongside one other doubter. Later, he’s jumped by Roxxon’s hired thugs, though his Thor instincts kick in. He easily defeats his attackers, then gives a warning that “Thor is coming.”

One Man With a Hammer

According to various reviews, The Mortal Thor #2 continues the plotline from the previous issue. It opens up with Sigurd appearing at the apartment of his neighbor, Kristin. And with him is an impish character known as Riddle Person. From there, #2 becomes a detective story with Sigurd tracking down Roxxon Construction’s biker thugs. He then fights his foes with a hammer attached to a rope.

This new Mortal Thor issue has impressed readers, fans, and critics alike. Al Ewing’s storytelling delivers a detective story filled with street violence. And Pasqual Ferry’s artwork adds a mesmerizing visual throughout the entire comic. The best part, however, is that it presents an alternate Thor unlike anyone has seen. Overall, it certainly seems like something fans of Marvel‘s Thunder God should check out.

Final Thoughts

I haven’t read The Mortal Thor #1 or #2, but they sound really intriguing. The idea of having Thor be reborn as a normal person is undoubtedly appealing. It’s like his banishment in the comics and movies, except with a twist. I especially like how he still has his combative instincts and sense of justice. It just shows that he’s a true hero, no matter who he is.

I can already tell the Mortal Thor series will have a captivating story. Sigurd will likely go on a journey of rediscovery and reclaim his lost memories. This development could lead to him relearning his powers, then resuming his heroic escapades. There are, of course, only my predictions, which may or may not come true. Either way, go check out The Mortal Thor #2, which is available now.
