PREDATOR: BADLANDS (2025) #1

Marvel’s Predator: Badlands #1 Promises Blood, Survival, and Savage New Lore

Marvel Comics introduced us to a plethora of mind-blowing stories since its beginning in 1939. They’ve shown us the origins of superheroes and villains as well as their epic clashes. It even explored alternate realities, introducing different versions of our favorite characters. However, every so often, this renowned comic company creates tales derived from other fictional universes.

That’s right, Marvel delves into and either recounts or expands the stories of iconic brands. We’ve gotten fables stemming from Star Wars, Godzilla, Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Conan the Barbarian. Now, we’re getting a whole new one connected to the science fiction film, Predator: Badlands. But how exactly does it tie into the freshest installment from the Predator franchise?

Set in the far-off future, Predator: Badlands follows a young Yautja/Predator named Dek. He was cast from his clan and now quests for the ultimate adversary. The outcast also acquires an unlikely ally in the form of an android called Thia. Now, the odd pair begin journeying together to complete Dek’s quest.

Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi will portray Dek, likely using only facial expressions and body movement. Opposite of him, as Thia, and a few other characters, will be Elle Fanning. And acting as the director is Dan Trachtenberg, who directed two previous Predator films.

A Predator: Badlands Comic from Marvel

The story of Predator: Badlands will be expanded upon by an upcoming tie-in Marvel comic. Titled Predator: Badlands #1, it serves as the official prequel to the new Predator movie. It focuses on Dek, who’s been given a task by his father. The young Yautja must retrieve a piece of technology from an abandoned spaceship. Unfortunately, a dangerous threat lies in wait that could turn Dek from hunter to hunted.

Ethan Sacks will write the comic with Elvin Ching handling the artwork. Director Trachtenberg also worked on this project to ensure it fit the new movie. Additionally, the book will feature a look into Dek’s origins. Meaning we’ll likely see why his tribe exiled him in the first place.

A sneak peek at this future Marvel comic came out recently. It showed off three different covers and four interior pages. And they were all filled with action, suspense, and/or lore. Nevertheless, this prequel appears to be an exciting time for Predator fans everywhere. The only hiccup is that they’ll have to wait until next month to see.

Final Thoughts

I’m completely neutral about this Marvel tie-in prequel comic, though it certainly sounds intriguing. There’s little doubt in my mind that all Predator fans will enjoy it. And they’ll especially like it if it adheres to the franchise’s traditional action and gore. Additionally, it might answer any unresolved questions from the upcoming flick.

Admittedly, I’ve never seen much of the Predator movie series. The only films I’ve seen are Alien vs Predator and Alien vs Predator: Requiem. But maybe this new flick will encourage me to give the franchise a chance. Predator: Badlands debuts November 7th, with the Marvel comic releasing on the 12th.
