Why You Should Join The SCP Foundation In 2024

If you’re looking for a community of fellow sci-fi nerds and creepy-pasta junkies, then join the SCP Foundation as they may be what you’re looking for. By being a writer for the SCP Foundation, you’ll get lots of freedom to write whatever you want as they don’t rely on canon stories or events.

Despite the SCP Foundation being an online community, don’t confuse them for a role-playing site. Although people come together to create fictional stories, you’re not required to role-play as a character. Real or not, there’s no obligation to pretend to be anyone else. When you join the SCP Foundation, just being yourself matters.

What Does the SCP Foundation Do?

Within this fictional universe, the SCP Foundation acts as a secret organization that captures, studies, and contains various supernatural and paranormal entities (SCPS or anomalies) to save the world. What’s more? The SCP Foundation hides their existence and these anomalies from human society to prevent mass hysteria.

To maintain their masquerade of normalcy, the SCP Foundation uses amnestic drugs to wipe away the memories of any human who knows about the foundation or anomalies. The amnestic drugs work similarly to the neuralizer from the Men in Black franchise. In contrast to the neuralizer, amnestic drugs are digestible pills, instead of activating a bright flash from a button press.

What Is An Anomaly?

When you join the SCP Foundation, remember that anything you consider strange, paranormal, or supernatural is an anomaly. In a nutshell, anomalies are entities or phenomena that defy the laws of nature and reality and cannot be regarded as being completely “real” or “natural” in appearance or function.

Also, anyone or anything can be or become anomalous. So, what does that mean for you? These anomalies can be humans, monsters, objects, locations, abstract thoughts, or any incomprehensible “thing” displaying supernatural abilities or other unnatural properties.

Canon!? What’s That?

Writers from all walks of life are involved in creating and growing the lore of the SCP Foundation. So, if you decide to join the SCP Foundation, you should brush up on your TV tropes. Overall, the concepts behind the SCP Foundation and anomalies include elements of popular genres like science fiction, urban fantasy, and horror to tell their stories.

Also, because of the many writers in the community, there’s nothing canon within the SCP Universe. Prepare to come in contact with inconsistencies throughout. If you join the SCP Foundation, it’s best to know what’s going on first before you even consider writing something of your own.

The Object Class of Anomalies

Make sure you understand object classes as well before you join the SCP Foundation, as they’re extremely important to keep track of the various known anomalies. Another key feature is the SCP files. These made-up confidential scientific reports are used to document various anomalies and all information collected about them, such as object class, descriptions, abilities, and containment procedures.

Once you join the SCP Foundation, you’ll learn about the object classes, which are used to identify these anomalies’ containment needs, research priorities, budgets, and other special considerations. In order to determine an anomaly’s object class, you must consider numerous factors. But the purpose and difficulty of an anomaly’s containment is the most important.

The Cuter It Is, The More Dangerous?

Despite how the SCP Foundation keeps anomalies contained, they don’t have nefarious motives. Seriously, the rampaging humanoid monster may actually want to be your friend. If you join the SCP Foundation, remember that the SCP Foundation is about safely securing anomalies, not destroying them. It’s literally in their motto!

When you join the SCP Foundation, keep in mind that not all SCPs are malicious in nature, or at least, don’t have abilities that are malicious in nature. Some SCPs can be quite friendly and innocent, including the ones who may have powers that could end the universe, either purposefully or accidentally.

Discovery and Containment Procedures

When anomalies are discovered, the SCP Foundation sends teams of undercover agents, called Mobile Task Forces (MTFs), to either collect and transport these captured anomalies to their numerous secret facilities, or to contain these anomalies at their location if they’re too big or, even worse, too powerful to move.

In these secret containment facilities, the SCP Foundation deploys armed security guards to keep these anomalies in captivity, and scientists to study these anomalies’ abilities and improve their containment methods. Between the SCP Foundation’s security forces and scientists, who have it worse: the ones who must contain the anomalies or the ones who must study them? Regardless, if you join the SCP Foundation, you can decide for yourself.

Who Rivals the SCP Foundation?

Another thing you must know before you join the SCP Foundation is its rival organization known as Groups of Interest (GOIs) who are also involved in handling these anomalous threats. In a world that is constantly under threat of being destroyed, is it any surprise that the SCP Foundation would have its own competitors?

Three notable examples include a terrorist group known as Chaos Insurgency who are Foundation defectors weaponizing SCPs for their own agendas. Next, the Global Occult Coalition (GOC) works on behalf of the United Nations to destroy anomalies outright. Finally, the Serpent’s Hand is a militant group advocating for the rights of anomalies and their freedom.

Who Are the Human Test Dummies?

Before you join the SCP Foundation, you must understand that you’ll be faced with various moral issues and universe-eating monsters every day. What’s worse? You may find yourself having to decide who lives and dies one too many times than you would like.

For instance, the SCP Foundation uses human test subjects (D-Class personnel) to partake in potentially dangerous experiments to study these anomalies, which helps with containment procedures. These human test subjects are mostly prison inmates facing death row or long prison sentences who are used to spare SCP Foundation employees from doing these experiments themselves.

Foundation Tales and Other Great Stories

For added fun, you can join the SCP Foundation to read and even write short stories about various characters and settings described in the SCP universe, also known as “Foundation Tales.”

What’s cool about these short stories is the writing style. The SCP writers have received tons of praise for their ability to write high-quality quasi-scientific reports to portray good, scary, and even heartwrenching stories about various anomalies, other organizations, and people.

How to Join the SCP Foundation

Because of the SCP Foundation’s growing popularity, people have produced numerous fan-made adaptations through various forms of media such as books, comics, video games, music, animations, and live-action short films. If you can think of it, you’ll find something about the SCP Foundation.

What’s even better? If you’d like to join this community as a fellow writer, you can! All you have to do is create a Wikidot account and apply to become a member. It’s just that easy! By following these simple directions, you’ll be able to create your own SCP class of anomalies that’ll get people talking in no time. So, what are you waiting for?
