Jason Todd’s New Red Hood Comic Canceled After Controversy — What Happened
Jason Todd, the complicated DC anti-hero you either love or you hate. You may be familiar with him if you voted in the poll that decided if he lived or died, maybe you don’t know who he is. If that’s the case, we’ll give a quick explanation before diving into the most recent comic series and all the nitty-gritty details of it. By the end of this article, you might end up disliking DC, we’ll see, now, let’s get going.
Who Is Jason Todd?
Jason Todd, also known as Red Hood, was the second robin. He was the adopted son of Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman. He died after the Joker tortured him and he was somehow brought back to life. Now he’s a vigilante named Red Hood.
There’s a lot more nuance to his backstory, but this is the briefest explanation I can provide. Now, let’s get talking about the DC comic.
Newest Red Hood Series

It was announced in June of 2025 here. It was written by Gretchen Felker-Martin and illustrated by Jeff Spokes. In the comic, Red Hood was supposed to team up with Huntress in New Angelique, a city riddled with corruption, perhaps moreso than Gotham.
However, it was canceled after one issue was published. You must be asking yourself, “why was it canceled? What’s the point of making a comic if the series is just gonna be canceled at the snap of a finger?” If you’re not asking those questions, that’s chill.
DC Cancels Comic After Writer’s Controversial Bluesky Posts
The reason this DC comic was canceled after one issue is because the writer, Gretchen, was fired after she posted on her Bluesky account, “I hope the bullet is okay.” And “That bitch nazi is dead.” in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The post has since been deleted from her profile.
Now, whether you agree with her sentiment or not, it still sucks that DC canceled the comic and hopefully the concept of the comic will stick around, even if someone else has to write it.
