The late Michael Crichton may have left this world, but his work still lives on. James Patterson and Crichton’s widow, Sherri Crichton, made sure to keep his legacy alive through Eruption. Crichton was known for his love and fascination with volcanoes and he invested a lot of time in doing his research.
So, for Patterson to bring his work to life today, even 16 years after his passing, and about something the Jurrasic Park author would have loved, is beyond amazing, and many fans of the best-selling authors have been anticipating this piece.

The novel is set in 2025 and Mauna Loa is set to blow, something that can be fatally destructive as the 1868 eruption killed 77 Hawaiians and brought landslides and a tsunami. The good news, though, is that the lava is projected towards an unpopulated region of the island.
The bad news, however, is that the military has kept their use of the mountain to store vast amounts of radioactive herbicide a secret. Now, It’s up to geologist John MacGregor and a team of scientists, soldiers, and island residents to prevent this drastic extinction-level event.
How James Patterson’s Collaboration with Michael Crichton For Eruption Came to Be
Crichton’s widow, Sherri Alexander Crichton, found parts of an unfinished novel centered around a huge volcanic eruption in his abandoned pile of papers. The widow knew how much Crichton loved volcanoes and Hawaii. He was always mesmerized by its culture, its people, and the peaceful vibes it brings.
The widow didn’t also like that the novel ended abruptly, and so, she saw that the only one who could do Crichton’s work justice was a high-profile, best-selling author who collaborated with Bill Clinton and Dolly Parton, which is Patterson.
Sherri was apprehensive at first as she was too protective of her late husband’s work and it was a new relationship for her but she got used to it eventually. Patterson had to read all of Crichton’s works to get a sense of his voice and tone, which he did.
However, he warns it might be a bit pacier than your average Crichton book but he’s too optimistic about it. “I challenge people, for them to come out and say, This is where Michael stopped, and this is where James started. And I’m really proud of that. I’m really happy about it,” Patterson said.
Afterthought
Sherri did her husband’s work right by bringing it back to life, and under the hands of the one and only James Patterson. It will be the eruption and blossoming of his new life as it’s one of the most anticipated works as a book and, later on, a movie.
The Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton who’s a reputable Harvard-educated doctor and the only writer to have a number one book, movie, and TV show in the same year deserves his work to be done right and perfectly, and Patterson was the perfect choice for the task.
