DC Comics Ends Green Arrow Series With Issue #31 This December

DC Comics has announced that the ongoing Green Arrow series will conclude with issue #31, scheduled for release in December 2025. Writer Chris Condon confirmed it will be his final issue on the title, while DC leadership has cited “unsustainable” sales as the driving factor behind the cancellation. For fans of Ollie Queen and the Emerald Archer, the final chapter promises a return to the personal and emotional stakes that have defined this run.

The Dig: Why It’s Ending

Despite critical praise and a strong artistic team, Green Arrow has apparently not pulled in the sales numbers that DC expected. As DC All-In showrunner Scott Snyder stated on Bleeding Cool, “Decisions like these are above my paygrade, but the honest reason is that not enough of us were buying it. The sales numbers on GA were just unsustainable. It’s disappointing to everyone. But keeping it going means not being able to take other chances.” The decision wasn’t purely creative. It reflects the stark realities of the comic market. Snyder also reminded fans of the importance of ordering early—before the final order cutoff (FOC)—in helping titles survive via store demand.

Creative Voices: Chris Condon & Team

Chris Condon, who took over Green Arrow earlier in its current run, expressed gratitude in a post on Bluesky:

Issue thirty-one of GREEN ARROW will be my final issue on the title. It's been fantastic to work with Montos, Buddy, Hass, Adriano, and Chris Rosa on the book. More than that, it's been a dream to work on a character like Ollie for DC Comics. I'm bummed we have to end things here…

Condon goes on to say that “I’m fiercely proud of the work – especially this final issue. Thank you to all of the fans who have been reading month to month for your support. Like you, I can’t wait to see what comes next for the Emerald Archer.” The creative team behind Green Arrow has shifted tones over the series, moving between more cosmic or family-focused arcs to grittier, street-level stories under Condon’s pen, and this final issue seems to draw heavily on personal consequences and Ollie’s role as both hero and father.

What’s in Store in #31

Set to hit shelves on December 24, 2025, Green Arrow #31 promises a story grounded in family struggle and reflection. League of Comic Geeks provided the following brief preview of issue #31: “Trouble in the family! After an explosive domestic squabble between a working father and a teenage daughter boils into the streets, the Emerald Archer must reckon with his past choices and experiences in order to provide a path forward for the two… and himself.” The art is handled by Montos (with Osvaldo Pestana Montpeller credited in previews) and the cover by Taurin Clarke; variant covers will be available as well.

What This Means for Green Arrow & DC

The cancellation marks the end of this particular Green Arrow volume, but not necessarily the final word on the character. DC Comics often rotates its lineup, relaunches titles, or shifts characters into team books or limited series. Ollie’s legacy—his moral complexity, his ties to Star City, his family—remains rich ground for future stories. However, this also reflects broader trends in the industry: even well-regarded books can struggle to stay afloat when sales lag.

For readers and collectors, #31 may become a sought-after closing chapter. For the creative team, it’s a chance to craft a thoughtful conclusion. And for DC, it’s a reminder of the difficult balancing act between creative vision and commercial viability.
