Reading Slump? Here are 5 Fast-Paced Thriller Books to Pull You Out of It

Books, alex cross

Falling into a reading slump is inevitable. Every reader falls into it at some point. Sometimes, it happens because of life’s exhausting responsibilities, and other times, it happens because one cannot find a transfixing book. Most times, the solution to this is finding quick, riveting, and thrilling books. Here are five thriller books to read to pull yourself out of a reading slump:

Run on Red

Let me set the scene: You are in the car with your friend, planning to dance the night away at the party you’re heading to. You notice the headlights behind you but do not pay much attention. You are on the road; anyone could be driving at this time. But then again, you are on a rural country road; it is almost an isolated area.

The truck is still behind you, and you’re almost certain you’re being followed. What would your next move be? How would you find your way out of this predicament? Out of the grasp of whomever threatens your safety when you are stuck on a road with no signal? This is the premise of Run on Red by Noelle W.Ihli.

Olivia and Laura find themselves fighting for their lives while they’re being followed by an anonymous truck. The setting adds a claustrophobic sense to the story and elevates the suspense you experience as a reader. The author does a wonderful job of immersing us in the story through the way she portrays and presents the characters. It is a book that you cannot put down!

If anything sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Jules Larsen knew this but still chose to proceed with the job offer anyway. It could not be that bad, right? All she has to do is to stay at an apartment in The Bartholomew building and follow its rules.

Soon enough, Jules starts noticing there is more to the story than the rumors she has heard about this mysterious building. After one eerie event after another, Jules realizes she is part of something bigger. The Bartholomew has some skeletons that certain people would appreciate keeping buried, even if at the cost of innocent people’s lives.

While reading Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, I found myself flying through the pages because I just simply wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery quickly. It is such a riveting read for mystery lovers!

Little Secrets

It is heartbreaking how fate can suddenly steal the white picket fence life from someone overnight. Marin had to sit and watch her life collapse in front of her eyes after her son got kidnapped. One year later, the police deemed her son’s case a cold one, she and her husband pulled away from each other, and her life lost its spark completely.

However, she decides to pick herself up and hires a PI to resume the investigation. This one decision leads her to discover her husband’s affair. Marin refuses to watch her husband slip through her fingers, just like her son. She wants to fight back, and this one choice unravels truths that she could never see coming.

Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier is stunningly gripping. I read it entirely in one sitting, and it was worth it! From the very first page, I found myself invested in the narrative. The book has many twists and turns, but with the one main revelation, I was fully mind-blown!

The Paris Apartment

Paris is charming. Anyone would be lucky to visit. Some might even be luckier than most to have an apartment in this enchanting city. That’s what Jess believed, too, before deciding to move in with her half-brother Ben for a little while. She needed a break from her dire life, and this seemed like the most ideal option.

However, once Jess gets there, Ben is nowhere to be found. He is missing, and she is left with more questions than answers. His neighbors could not be of much help, but Jess could not shake off the feeling that they were trying to hide something from her. She is losing time, and the break she longed for turned into a missing person investigation. Sometimes, the truth is hiding in plain sight, and Jess might have to learn that the hard way.

Lucy Foley is already known to be an amazing thriller author, and this book is no different. The anticipation in each chapter keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the revelations are such a delicious moment to experience!

When Hollywood is struck by the tragic death of one of its beloved superstars at the hands of her husband, everyone is shocked and needs to know the truth. Did the Hollywood star Robert Solomon really kill his wife? The defense team is in for a complicated trial. And the only man they can trust to prove Robert’s innocence is Eddie Flynn, an ex-con artist who became a lawyer.

Eddie finds himself in a circle of confusion. Robert is the only suspect they have, and all of the evidence condemns him. But Eddie senses that there is a cunning and evil scheme at play. Someone wants to ruin Robert’s life, and this person might be inside the courtroom.

This book by Steve Cavanagh was such a refreshing read. At no point did I expect what would happen next. The twists kept catching me off guard, and it was excitingly dizzying! If you are a fan of legal thrillers that are executed well, this book is your go-to!
