DC's Absolute Universe

3 New Amazing Comics From DC’s Absolute Universe

What is the Absolute Universe? It’s an imprint of the DC Comics series. It’s part of the DC multiverse, and it brings about more contemporary and reimagined versions of our favorite superheroes. The old DC versus Marvel comics battle is as familiar as the famed PC versus Mac battle. It’s true that Marvel has been dominating over the past decade and a half. The Absolute Universe now breathes new life into DC.

3 New Amazing Comics From DC’s Absolute Universe

Here we’re looking at a few Absolute Universe comics. What’s different here? Absolute Universe gets in at the ground level. Besides modernized takes on our favorite superheroes, it offers a starting point so readers can actually see heroes in a different light.

Superman

Superman

As with most of the Absolute Universe comics, you don’t need to read the full canon to find your way. The Superman comic, Absolute Power, sees Doomsday returning. Lois Lane has developed Superwoman-like powers, but how long will they last? And Superman may be facing another enemy, the Time Trapper, soon.

With art by Dan Mora and Joshua Williamson, the story jumps right off the page. Scott Snyder is at the helm of this DC world. Not quite as much of Clark Kent/Superman’s past is taken into account here. In fact, little is known about his upbringing with the Kents.

Batman

Here we have the Dark Night’s tale told in a glorious but gritty gothic fashion. Absolute Universe explores Batman’s origin story of seeing his parents killed in a crime, but many more layers are added to this. Staying true to the 1939 edition of Detective Comics #33 is where this originates.

Absolute Batman was released on October 9, 2024, with Nick Dragotta doing much of the art along with Frank Martin. Snyder states

That’s the spirit of this universe. In this universe, the heroes come up in ways that make them underdogs…They have a lot less of the comforts and things that they have in the main universe. Without spoiling things in each of the books, they have to be tougher, they have to be more resourceful, they have to shine brighter. And it makes them more bad*ss.

Snyder says the true underdog origins are brought to life in the pages of the book.

Wonder Woman

Now we get to the fairest – and phenomenal Diana Prince. Created by Kelly Thompson, we see this Amazonian warrior’s arsenal of weapons – and get schooled on her lassos. DC’s Absolute Universe dives deep into her origins, paying particular attention to the mythology that helped create her.

Besides Wonder Woman’s battles with Hades, Tetra-Spiders, and Atlantean Clea, we see her grow as Diana. Also, we see her navigate her relationship with Steve Trevor. Plus, her daughter Trinity is introduced!

Kelly Thompson has been instrumental in reimagining the Warrior Princess. Between her armor (and even her tattoos) we have an updated heroine. Hayden Sherman’s meticulous artwork has shaped this crime-fighting icon’s character and legacy.

Wrapping It Up

With the introduction of the new comic line from DC, we have solid stories, relatable characters, and accessible content. They all have a good jumping-off point. Although these stories are considered modernized, they pay proper homage to the rich history and intricate backstories of DC comics.
