In a recent interview, William Daniels and his wife, Bonnie Bartlett, explain what kept them together for almost 75 years. The golden age actors are going down memory lane and explaining that their key to surviving a Hollywood marriage is an open marriage, code for looking past infidelity. Bartlet doubled back on statements made in her 2023 memoir “Middle of the Rainbow: How a wife, mother and daughter managed to find herself and win two Emmys” questioning the couple’s freak flag was misinterpreted.

Open Marriage Confessions Raise Questions

Bartlett has spoken publicly many times about how early in their marriage she was unfaithful. In her 2023 memoir, the “Golden Girls” actor recalled the early years of her marriage to Daniels, which was an open marriage because she cheated with a “kinder and gentler man.” Barlett claims she cheated with an actor with a dull personality but great in bed. Years later, William Daniels committed the same act and cheated in their marriage.

This is where the situation raises questions because the couple referred to the infidelity as an “open marriage,” the public had questions about whether there were rules and an agreement in place, and why an open marriage.

Bonnie Bartlett Infidelity Sparks Open Marriage Debate

Bartlett told the Daily Mail in an interview on May 18 that there were no prior arrangements or rules for their open marriage.

“It’s funny, the press will pick up on something and make more of it than it was,’ she said. ‘There was never any discussion as to what we were going to do, but in 75 years, the two of you together, you know, it would be abnormal if you… weren’t attracted occasionally to other people,’ she said.

The “St. Elsewhere” star continued,

“It was non-spoken. Bill and I never sit down and make rules. We never sit down and talk about these things. We just don’t. We just live our lives. And if he’s away for a year, he’s away for a year. Our lives just went on, but we never got unhinged…. We never got unhinged, but our lives did go in different directions occasionally.”

To clarify, the relationship was not open because there was no agreement between both parties that sleeping with someone else is okay. A combination of Bartlett marrying William Daniels at 18 years old, his attitude, and her status as a rising Hollywood starlet introduced infidelity into their relationship.

But judging by the smiles on both Daniels, who is 99, and his wife, Bartlett, age 96, their past infidelities brought them closer and strengthened their love. The “Boy Meets World” stars met in college, married in 1951, adopted two sons after the loss of their infant son, and worked together as a married couple on several projects.

Celebrities Turning Affairs Into Open Love

Hollywood couples might need to take notes from the William Daniels and Bonnie Bartlett’s relationship and choose an open marriage to survive the 75-year mark. But they are not the only stars to admit to having extramarital affairs to either keep spice in their relationship or to justify their career and choices.

For example, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are a Hollywood couple who have made headlines with public affairs. For years, Black Hollywood has discussed Smith’s having an open relationship. Rumors include Will Smith dating co-stars like Margot Robbie and even hooking up with long-term friend Duane Martin. Pickett’s relationship with singer August Alsina ended in a messy song, “Entanglements,” and a “Red Table Talk” that left Smith in tears.

R & B star Ne-Yo is living most men’s fantasy with his four live-in girlfriends’ polygamous relationship with Moneii (Phoenix Feather ), Arielle Hill (Twin Flame), Brionna Williams ( Sexy Lil Somethin), and Cristina (Pretty Baby). Recently, the “When You’re Mad” singer admitted on the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast that one consequence of his new relationship is the loss of career opportunities and deals. Ne-Yo is sharing his new lifestyle with the public all over social media. After years of zesty allegations, seven children, a failed marriage, and an engagement, Ne-Yo has found happiness in his new relationship dynamic.

Celebrity Love Lessons Warnings

This article is not your sign to cheat; every spouse is not as forgiving as Mr. Feeny. Communication is a great key to maintaining a healthy relationship. But if you decide to take a page out of Ne-Yo’s love story, have an open conversation with all parties involved to minimize drama, and frequent trips to the clinic.
