Big Sean has finally dropped his latest album Better Me Than You. The wait is finally over! Better Me Than You, which debuted on August 30, is already sensational as fans rave about how much they enjoy it. The album features guest artists like Cash Cobain, Gunna, Kodak Black, DJ Premier, and more.
Big Sean’s Better Me Than You Album
On Friday, August 30, the Detroit native delivered his new album via FF to Def Entertainment/Def Jam Recordings. The 21-track album started with Pressure (Intro), in which several narrators talked about Sean’s apparent break from putting out music. “Dog, the city needs you. “Come on, man,” one voice said, while another pointed out, “Those n**gas say you haven’t been to the city in over a year.” The Detroit native responded on the next track, Iconic, confidently stating that he’s “back to the basics, back to work.”
Big Sean’s most recent album features hit songs like Typecast, as well as previously released singles like Yes, On Up, and Precision. His collaboration with The Alchemist’s Together Forever appears as a bonus track at the end. He also invited other beatmakers such as Key Wane, Turbo, Wondagurl, SkipOnTheBeat, and others to collaborate on the album. The album also includes a surprise appearance by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at the end of Break The Cycle.
Before The Release
Better Me Than You arrived after a few delays. Before releasing the LP, Big Sean revealed in an emotional Instagram Live that he was nervous about releasing the album. “Been in this b—h trying to finish an album, and I’m tired of overthinking it. … And, by the way, n—a, like me, I’ve been trying to be sober, so a n—a is out here raw-dogging his emotions, bro.”
Big Sean originally intended to release the album earlier in August. However, he decided to keep it for a few more weeks to put some final touches on it. He wanted to keep working on it until he was certain it would turn out exactly as it should, but he revealed last month that his mother was the one who encouraged him.
Album Review
With its 21 tracks, Better Me Than You by Big Sean is a journey of self-discovery, taking responsibility, and coming to terms with how complicated and amazing life is. As he explained on X (Twitter), the album is guided by four pillars, each represented by a spectrum of color: during the album’s creation, Sean experienced PRESSURE (red), which gave him CLARITY (aqua blue), to gain FOCUS (green), which brought him HAPPINESS (yellow gold).
Big Sean delivers some hardcore lyrics on this album, but his verse on Million Pieces struck the hardest. In it, he delves into the crap that comes with fame and how he’s prepared to deal with it. He also dedicated On Up from the album to his young son. In the song, he talks about seeing his inner self in him, teaching him the ways of the world, and envisioning himself as an elderly grandfather sooner rather than later. Generally, most of the songs from the album are rated from 3-4/5 which is a good one.

Big Sean, a 7-time BET Award winner and GRAMMY nominee, is an unwavering force in hip hop. Sean has sold more than 50 million records since Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam released his PLATINUM-certified debut album Finally Famous in 2011. His rise doesn’t look like it will slow down any time soon.
