Beyoncé certainly silenced her haters when she kicked off her Cowboy Carter Tour. Before the tour even kicked off, there was a ton of chatter about whether or not Beyoncé was selling enough tickets. She definitely proved everyone wrong because not only did she sell tickets, but she sold enough of them that she broke a record — and it was only the first stop on the tour, giving her plenty of time to break even more records.
Beyoncé Breaks a Record
The first stop on the Cowboy Carter Tour was at Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium, where Beyoncé played a total of five shows, grossing $55.7 million. According to Yahoo, it is the highest-grossing single-venue engagement ever by a woman. A total of 217,000 tickets were sold across the five shows, grossing approximately $11.1 million per show and played to about 45,000 fans each night.
According to Yahoo, this makes the Cowboy Carter tour the fifth highest-grossing tour run, just behind U2’s residency at the Sphere and Harry Styles’ residency at Madison Square Garden. On top of that, Beyoncé has now played more shows in SoFi Stadium, more than any other artist, for a total of eight shows over the years.
Better Than We Thought
Before the Cowboy Carter Tour even started, it was facing a lot of criticism and backlash regarding ticket sales and how some shows weren’t selling out — something that isn’t really common for Beyoncé. Despite all of the haters, the tour is set to break even more records and make millions.
According to Billboard, they’ve projected the tour to gross more than $300 million, and if they are correct, it will surpass all of her previous tours. Billboard also predicts that if the projections they’ve made hold steady, her career boxscore total will surpass $1.4 billion with 12 million tickets sold overall.
Help From A New Generation
Over the years, we’ve seen Beyoncé grow into the woman and performer she is today, and it seems like she’s now passing the torch to her children. Several times on tour so far, she’s been joined by her two daughters, Blue Ivy Carter, 13, and Rumi Carter, 7.
According to Hollywood Unlocked, Blue Ivy joins her mom on stage to dance along with the backup dancers as her mom performs. She also dances solo during two songs. During “Protector,” Rumi joins her mom and sister as Beyoncé sings about a mother’s love for her children, making for an adorable moment. It’s clear that her daughters are showing a bit of interest in following in their mother’s footsteps, and fans are loving the girls on stage.
While The Cowboy Carter Tour faced a lot of skepticism as far as ticket sales before the tour even kicked off, it’s pretty clear now that Beyoncé is going to be just fine. With only one tour stop in, she’s already beating records and will continue to do so as the tour moves across North America throughout the summer.
