Race Across the World is a competitive reality series that follows pairs of teams as they race across a route in an attempt to make it to the end first and win £20,000. The show is similar to The Amazing Race in the United States (and other countries), but also has differences as well. For one, Race Across the World does not allow air travel. Also, the focus of the series is on the travel aspects and relationship-building between the pairs, whereas the Amazing Race has a much more challenge-based focus. While there are similarities, they are two separate entities. A ten-second trailer for Season 5 was released.

The route for Season 5 of Race Across the World has been confirmed, and it focuses on the continent of Asia. The five teams will start at the Great Wall of China. The race lasts 14,000 km through the continent, with teams making their way across China and Nepal before ending at the finish line in Kanniyakumari, on the southernmost tip of India. The beautiful diversity of this route should capture the essence of Asia for the racers and viewers alike.

The cast for Race Across the World season 5 has also been released, and the teams making up this year’s group include sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, former married couple Yin and Gaz, brothers Brian and Melvyn, teenage couple Fin and Sioned, and mother and son Caroline and Tom. The pairs will be stripped of any modern technology, including phones and payment devices, and have just a small amount of money to make it to the end and win the prize. Often, it is the duo’s ability to connect with strangers that helps propel them to the end.

According to Creative Director Tim Harcourt, the upcoming season will be a thrilling ride for the viewers. “Audiences seem pleased that the difficult and disarming undertaking of the Race was not watered down for well-known personalities and their loved ones. We are thrilled to be making another series for the BBC.” Hopefully, season 5 lives up to the hype and is the best entry to the series yet.

Final Thoughts

After a year-long layoff, fans of Race Across the World should be thrilled that the new season is just around the corner. The cast and race route are set, and the adventure should be captivating to follow. Tune in on Wednesday, 23rd April at 9 pm on BBC One or iPlayer to see who has what it takes to make it to the end and win the cash prize associated with the victory.
